Hi everyone, we dont post much but we lurk on here alot and read the posts daily.

We weighed our piggies tonight all seemed healthy weights apart from our biggest piggy spike, last week he reached 1024g and we were thrilled he had broken a kg. We had spike in early july and we belive he was 6 to 8 weeks old then so that would make him 9 months old now. Tonight he only weighed 993g so a loss of 31g in a week, he is eating, drinking and acting good. the other boy we had at th same time is smaller at 952g but has been going up steadily. Does anyone have any advice on why he would loose so much weight so quickly? or are we being over worried.

Hope there are still some people online too help, many thanks

I wouldn't panic. Bear in mind he could have had a full bowel/bladder when you weighed him previously. If he is still eating then I'd wait and see what happens. He might gain twice as much next week.

One oz weight change is well within the normal range (full bladder or full belly)and is no reason for worry; you need only worry if the downward trend continues steadily and is more than 2oz.

A 30gm variation in a week is acceptable. I start to become concerned if there is a weight loss of 30gm per week for three consecutive weeks, ie a loss of 90gm.

When I first switched to weighing in grams I went out of my mind with worry for a while, until I found that 30g is only equal to around 1oz. It makes it seem much more reasonable then!

Make sure you weigh them at the same time of day each week; mine always get weighed mid-morning on a Monday, before they get their morning veggies.
