portsmouthnappies

Hello, I`m new to this forum. I am rescuing two pigs soon and have started to build my c & C cage, but have lots of questions. Here goes:
1. The bottom tier of my cage is 140cm x140 cm. I have managed to source some corroplast but it doesn`t come that wide. Has anyone else come across this and what have they done about the join?
2. I thought I would use newspaper to line the cage, I have read alot about putting fleece on top of that to provide a " stay dry" top layer. I do have some fleece but wont piggies claws get caught?
3. What do people use as beds and bedding? would like to use some thing sustainable- would shredded paper from the office do?
I do have some experience of guinea pigs we kept them as a child but in hutches outdoors but if someone could help it would be great, my children are getting really impatient and keep playing imaginary guinea pig in the cage with the plastic dinosaurs!thanks

I dont know about the C&C as ive never made one..

Piggies are fine with fleece, their nails shouldnt be long enough to get caught.
Shredded paper would be fine but i prefer to use hay as they like to lay and munch on it!

beware, guinea pigs are addictive you may end up with more than two :)

hi!

i use fleecing and their paws and claws do not get caught up in it. Line the correx with newspaper and place fleecing on top.

For bedding I have a big litter box, i line it with newspaper and put in dust free hay for my piggy which i change every day - then the hay doesnt stick to the fleecing as can be a pain to brush off! every day with the fleece, just need to go over with dustpan and brush to clear of poos etc! I have two fleece pads and change twice a week so when one is being washed can use the other!

Sawdust - try and avoid this as can cause respiratory problems for piggys and can make their paws sore.

I am getting a C&C cage, i ordered the grids yesterday but not sourced out my correx yet! from what i hear people use gaffer tape to join the two bits of correx.

hope this helps! :):)
