Threepigs

Our three boars have moved into our study over the last few days as it has been so cold (they were in the garden, then moved into the garage as it got colder, now in study on a bed we have there, in their indoor cage, with heating turned down so it is not too much of a shock for them.

It has been so interested watching them interact and go about their business as they are quite timid and until now have always had advanced warning of us coming (turning key in door to garage) and have gone off to hide). Over the last couple of days, if one of us is on the PC, as I am now, they will all come out and eat, wander around etc.

However, I'm worried that I am hearing a lot of teech chattering. I know one has scrapped in the past as I have seen a bite on the face, but I had no idea it was happening so much.

They are about 7 months, and I guess that is a difficult age for them. Also their indoor cage isn't quite as big as it should be (the hutch is fine, but too cold in the garden and we decided that it was best they should be in a slightly too small cage than risk dying out in the garden). There is no room for anything bigger in the garage currently.

So, my question (sorry ... didn't mean this to be so long) ... is, is it normal to have quite a lot of teeth chattering in 3 boars of that age? I guess they have done it maybe 3 times in the last 10 minutes?

Thank you.

PS: have considered separating them but am very confused about their order of dominance - I think it has changed since we got them.

It could be just down to the change of housing has thrown them all a little so they are resetting their ranking? if that makes sense?

Just keep a close eye on them. I wouldnt jump in and seperate just yet. My older two chatter at each other quite a lot but its usually all just noise

I didn't separate my 3 boars until it was clear that one was being very harrassed all the time. Up until then there had been some rumbling and a bit of chasing, but I left it as long as I could. Unfortunately, it didn't settle down for mine, but I suppose it could go either way.

Teeth chattering although a sign of aggression doesn't mean fighting will break out. I know though that it spooked me the first time I heard it! I still have Radley doing it to Sunshine but they are good friends.

If you do seperate I would just watch them and see which pair seem more bonded. Good luck! :)

We have given them a bigger box/igloo thing and that seems to have helped a bit, but they are still at it a little.

Thanks everyone :)
