Yes, Vedra does x-rays without anes..anast...knocking them out (I can't spell that blooming word) ;D
 
I think maybe you can do an xray with a towel round them weighed down with sandbags my sis in law use to be a nurse and I'm sure she told me that once , but about the tooth growing wrong idea, I did lose lavender last march with that and only an x ray showed it up she had to be PTS while under as there was nothing that could be done, it was growing into her brain area, I hope so much thats not Georges problem, but maybe an xray would put you out of yourmisery, wondering I know Lavvy wanted to eat but just could'nt do it, :-* :-* kissy for George

Vedra wraps the piggy in a pillowcase so they can't wriggle about.

Michelle, sorry to hear about Lavender. That was basically what my rodentologist said although I had to read between the lines as she put it so nicely bless her. She said that if it was the case, there's nothing you can do except make him comfortable :'(
 
So do I bun. We don't know what it is yet so there's no point in dwelling on that option. I'm staying positive like you always tell me to :)
 
I'm so sorry Debbie. George is such a gorgeous piggie.

Regarding anaesthetic (I may be unpopular here) I don't see the problem with it. A competent vet shold be able to anaesthetise a guinea without problems. I have only owned guineas for 18 months and have been through 4 anaesthetics, all fine, and one was for Scarby's CA liver.

We wouldn't consider having surgery done on ourselves without anaesthetic; in fact I believe it would be more traumatic for a guinea to have things done without sedation/ pain relief.

In my experience the best anaesthetic for guineas is isoflurane - which is used for people too.

Debbie, I know this is straying from the point, which is your darling George. I know you will make an intelligent and compassionate decision, and you're in my thoughts, darling xx

In a way, I'm quite fortunate that he's not here with me. If he was, i'd just be watching him all day not knowing what to do for the best and going out of my mind. He's in the best place with the best people. Any difficult decisions (please God there won't be any) will be made if and when there are no other options and I won't have to make the decision all by myself. Does that make sense?
Anyway, we shouldn't be talking like this. He's no worse so that's a good thing.

I agree, though with a piggy that is already poorly, I'd be a little more cautious. Though sometimes there is no option. I've had a lot of guineas sail through neuters and be bright as buttons on returning home.
Anyway, good luck George and keep on fighting little lad :-*

hows he doing now? you've got us all worried, you must think positive and maybe think hes a stubborn little man lol fingers crossed all will be well, we're all thinking of you and George,
anesthetic is fine if its needed but for things like teeth I would like my pigs done with no anesthetic if possible but never for one minute would i let them suffer pain because of my beliefs, and go for what the vet suggests, none of mine over the years and thats a lot of piggys and a lot of ops have ever died through the anesthetic,
 
Stay positive Debbie. My nan's lucky ring has given me and my piggies loads of luck so I will ask that she sends it over to you too :) You have been such a fab friend to Debbie, Bev. I am sure everybody including Debbie agrees with me on that one!

Guess that's just the way I am, if I consider you to be a friend i'll walk over hot coals for you, or drive to Hastings, whichever is less painful ;D

I'm hoping to see George on Saturday. Bev, very kindly, said she would take me again. I'm trying to stay positive but I really feel the need to see him and give him a cuddle. I miss him so much.
 
You must do! It was bad enough for me when scarby stayed at Roger's the one night. I can't imagine how awful it is for you. When you go you will be weighed down with good luck and love messages for him.

My vet has been excellent with my guineas - would you like to call him and ask for his thoughts?
