I really can't believe I am typing this. Our beautiful original pig Gertie passed away suddenly tonight.

She had been ill over the weekend and went to the vet tonight and was diagnosed with a possible respiratory infection. My OH was syringe feeding her and she suddenly had a fit and died in his arms.

Gertie came to live with us in February 2010, she was the start of our herd and remained top sow all through her time with them. She was always very protective of new addtions and was looked up to by all of them including her man Johnny.

We love you so much beautiful girl, you have fun at the rainbow bridge until we see you again. Honey is waiting for you.

So sorry for your loss Helen, it's never easy when they leave. Especially when it's unexpected! :(. She was a beautiful girl and will be sadly missed!

awww Helen....This has made me cry 8... What a beautiful piggie she was and this is a lovely tribute to your special girl.

The photos show every side of her personality, and you chose them perfectly.

I'm so sorry. What a beautiful piggie and its sad she was taken so suddenly. Popcorn free at the bridge little one and take care of all the other piggies there..
 
Helen like I said on facebook and the other forum I'm really so very sorry about Gertie, she was a wonderful piggy and I know how much she will be mssed. Hugs to you both xx

Thank you everyone, am still in shock today, just did not expect this at all. Am still grieving over Honey but with Honey it was kind of expected as she was a heart pig and had been ill in the week up to her death, but Gertie other than a couple of days where her breathing wasn't right, was her usual self. She was only 2 and a half :(

Is all a bit strange with the herd at the moment as they try to find a new balance without Gertie. Is horrible seeing them without her, especially Johnny.
