Junior Guinea Pig
Last night we unexpectedly lost our lovely feisty friendly girl Leeloo.
She had lost weight over the last few weeks so we took her to the vets last week and yesterday they did some dental work under anaesthetic. When we collected her she was groggy but the vets said she had been ok in the recovery ward, moving around and eating etc and were happy to discharge her. But on the way home she went downhill fast, hampered we think by a long stressful journey because of unusually gridlocked traffic. Shortly after we got home she became floppy & her breathing went crazy. We called the vet for emergency advice and she talked us through some first aid but it was no good. She passed away in front of our eyes. I think I even felt her last heartbeat.
Me and my hub are in bits quite frankly. We loved her so much.
She obviously wasn't well enough to cope but we didn't know. I keep blaming myself for not taking her to the vets sooner but I've been in hospital myself so this was the soonest we could. I know shoulda/woulda/coulda is not helpful and logically we did the best we could for her but can't help feeling bad.
She is survived by her lovely sister Beatrix (Bea) who is rather confused & definitely upset. I've put some of my rolled up socks in her bed and she's cuddled up to them now. We will get her a new friend through our nearest recommended rescue.
Leeloo was a proper character and loved to race around the living room floor, popcorning & chasing Bea and bossing her about. She loved a cuddle especially with her dad, and was also very bolshy & knew what she wanted (usually parsley!)
She has been amazing in helping me get better too and I could not have done it without her.
We will always miss her and love her. Sleep well my beautiful girl xxxxxx
