One of my girls, Mya, has suspected cystitis and is on antibiotics (as of yesterday). I want to change to a low calcium diet for all of them (I have seven in total - a pair of boars (one about 3.5 years and one three months); a pair of girls approx 3 yo and a trio of two girls and a neutered boar all approx 3 yo (Mya is one of the trio). Am I okay to have the youngster on a low calcium diet or should I keep him on a normal diet until he has finished growing? Also, would anyone be willing to share their low calcium diet with me, so I can see I’m giving them the right stuff? I will definitely be starting the trio on a low calcium diet as of today, and have ordered a water filter too so that their is calcium reduced. Any and all help gratefully received. Thanks.

Hi, my Piggies are on a low calcium diet as one of them has bladder problems.

They have:
Cucumber
Peppers (all colours)
Lettuce (anything but iceberg but mainly little gem)
Coriander
Green beans
A slither of spring greens if I can get it.

They have that twice a day. You can also feed celery but my piggies don't like it.

They also have a tablespoon of pellets each, unlimited hay and I filter their water.

I have been feeding this diet for nearly 4 years after running it past my vet and have had no problems.

You can start the young one on the diet. My Ellen (bladder pig) has been having this diet since she was 6 months old and it did her no harm. She's now just over 4.

I have just adopted a new piggy called Elizabeth. Her age is unknown although we think she is quite young but I have also started her on the same diet

Hi, all the above is very good advice, my piggie has ic and products containing grain can have an adverse effect. I'd recommend switching to grain free pellets too if possible.

Thanks for letting me know what you feed. It’s more or less what I planned to feed them. Mine don’t mind celery but they’re not all keen on coriander. I was planning to get some grain free pellets today but had a migraine that made me dizzy so had to curtail my shopping trip. I’ll get some tomorrow if my heads back to normal! It’s good to know your vet backed the diet too.

Dill is also a good herb to feed if they’re not keen on coriander. I hope that you feel better soon, migraines are awful! :(
