Pig has just had a kidney stone removed & is doing really well. She's a rescue pig so I've no idea what her diet was like before. What I feed her is pets st home own brand pellets, the vet has suggested I try Burgess Excel, unlimited Timothy hay, and cucumber, peppers, coriander and celery. Occasionally she'll get apple, cranberry and carrot. Does that sound ok?

Filtering water helps, oxbow cavy cuisine pellets, and I give the guinea pigs oxbow urinary support tablets too ( they love these).

My vet herslef keeps pigs and told me to put Bumble on Vetcare mulitimodal food for guinea pigs as it has the lowest calcium of all the guinea pig nuggets - you can buy online from vetuk

Thank you all...and what about hay? They're currently having Pets at Home dust free and Timothy and is allergic to dust so has to be dust free!) - vet said alfalfa hay is bad for UTIs, what else should I avoid? What vet should I avoid?

I hate pets at home hay it looks really brown to me. I'm sure lots of people will give u advice about dust free hay. But I love oxbow Timothy hay I don't think it's dusty at all, but it's quite expensive. I found that u can order it from the pets at home website and pick it up at their store. It's cheaper than ordering via amazon.

I get Glenwoods Devonshire meadow hay from B & M stores - £3.50 for 3.5 kilos - never had a problem with it and haven't found it to be dusty - they also do it in 1 kilo bags for a pound - I know a few others on here use it as well.

I can't comment on in low calcium foods in general, but alfalfa hay should not be given to guinea pigs older than. 6 months unless they've just given birth. And even then it should be given. An an extra, not as a main hay.

Guinea pigs need grass hay, alfalfa is a legume, not grass. It is way too high in both calcium and protein to feed regarly or as a large part of their diet. Even as newborns and nursing adults they should only have about 1 handful of it a day.
