I have been thinking for a while now about not feeding pellets for a while,currently use harringtons. Is there anyone on here who only feeds veggies and lots of hay? Wondering people's thoughts?

@gizzy

I know that some members have gone or at least investigated a pellet-free diet.

There are also pellets available that are lower in calcium than Harringtons.

I use Vetcare multimodal pellets from vetuk - (my vet recommended them for my kidney stone and sludgy bladder boar) they are low calcium & look like long thin shredded wheat - similar to fibrefirst,but works out cheaper as 1kilo plus postage is £7.99 as you would have to buy 3 boxes of fibrefirst at £3.50 for 350gs.

Yep Julesie as one of her pigs had very bad bladder issues.

I have recently switched to Bunny Meadowfeast Guinea pig food that you can get from Zooplus. It is a German brand and though the calcium is not the lowest at 0.6% (though it is lower than most brands) it is not from calcium carbonate which is thought to cause stones. The ingredients are all plant based too and very natural. It is not cheap at £22.90 for 4kg but the pellets are big and can be split into 3 and ech of my pigs has no more than about 5 whole pellets a day.
