Teenage Guinea Pig
I just wanted to draw attention to this thread - http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk...-ratios-explained-diet-advice-included.30297/. I think people often overlook the sticky threads but this is important information for those feeding a low calcium diet.
This is also very useful - http://www.guinealynx.info/diet_ratio.html
Whilst we know there are bladder issues associated with too much calcium a whole host of health issues are associated with an imbalanced calcium:phosphorus ratio. In regards to feeding a low calcium diet the correct ratio of phosphorus must be maintained. Calcium carbonate acts as phosphate binder so when dietary calcium is lacking and phosphorus levels are high calcium is drawn from the teeth and bones - obviously not a good thing!
