Recently, I have noticed that my guinea pig's urine has been leaving a gritty substance when dried. This means that there's too much calcium in his diet. He's currently fed on the Harringtons guinea pig pellets, so I think that it may have something to do with his veggies. Can anybody suggest some low calcium veggies? Thanks :) xx

Low Calcium Diet For Bladder Piggies
@helen105281 may be able to advise you on what she uses as a sustainable long term daily diet.

Please also look at filtering water, not just for calcium, but also for minerals, which can contribute to the build of stones or sludge. Make sure that your boy is getting enough water on board at least once daily to produce a pee big enough to flush the bladder, but don't force any more water down him than he is willing to drink in one go and never syringe more water than he can swallow.

Harrington's have recently massively reduced the percentage of calcium in their pellets.

Sorry for the late reply, been in London all day. I feed the following twice a day:

Coriander - 1 sprig
1 piece of cucumber
1 piece of celery
1 piece of pepper (rotate the colours weekly)
1 green bean
1 slither of spring greens

For pellets I feed grainless but my favourite of the brands has just been discontinued. I do also sometimes feed Harringtons aswell.

My Little Rose has just been diagnosed with sludge too so I may need to modify her diet even further. She lives with 4 other pigs though and I suspect she scoffs all the spring greens before the others get to them.

Thank you for the speedy reply :tu:

I've been doing a lot of research since yesterday and I've now formed a low calcium diet plan. Definitely need to stop feeding kale so often

I'll definitely consider filtering his water, thank you so much for your help.
