Hello, my gp- Snickers went to the vets today and was given loxicom as they feel he may have arthritis. He has lost weight so on a small does once a day, they gave it to him at 11am today and said I had to stick to the same time each day, I said I would prefer 4ish each day as I get back from school (once back) but my question is can I not just try and make it in the afternoon straight away going forward? Vet said said start with 12 tomoz and an extra hour more each day to get to my deisred time but I'm going to my dads over night on Monday (leaving at 11ish) and then I won't be back till Tuesday afternoon? Could I give it to him 11am on Monday and then 2/3pmish on the Tuesday? Thanks guys

Hi there
Locicom is usually given twice a day as piggies metabolise it so quickly. So really it will wear off within about 12 hours. I would speak to your vet about giving it twice daily. Who is looking after your piggy while you are at your Dad’s? Can they give the Loxicom? Most piggies love it so it’s not difficult to get them to take it.

It is better to move doses by one hour increments rather than sudden jumps in one go.
However pain meds only being given once a day may not be enough anyway. Piggies metabolise pain meds quickly so need a dose every 12 hours.

You will have to monitor whether a ‘small dose’ once a day is sufficient to manage his pain ie if he continues to lose weight (along with the other signs of pain) then it possibly isn’t.

How much weight has he lost?
Remember anything more than 50g and he could need some bowls of critical care/syringe feeds to stop further weight loss.

Is someone looking after your piggies while you are gone? The time you will be gone is too long for them to be left unattended.
Is the person looking after them not able to give the meds and move the dose by one hour per day?
