When I got home from work today, about 7pm, I asked the kids and OH if they had fed the guinea pigs, and of course they hadn't :
So I popped out to feed them, only to find one of the hutch doors wide open :o
The door that was open was upstairs on a two storey hutch, into the piggies' bedroom. I looked into the hutch and could see Charlie sitting patiently by the food bowl (his usual position!) but no sign of Jack. I was terrified that he had got out, or been taken by a fox or something. But luckily I found him hiding under a piece of vetbed in the open bedroom
I am so glad to still have two guinea pigs. Anything could have happened as the hutch had been open all day :-\
On investigation, it turned out that my 7 year old son (normally a very responsible young man) had opened the hutch to show the piggies to his cousin whilst he was playing outside this morning, and forgotten to lock it. I didn't shout too much as it was a genuine mistake and he felt bad about it, but I really thought I could trust him as he often feed the guinea pigs by himself in the morning, and nothing like this has ever happened before. Guess it's back to being a Mummy job then :
