My Luigi got diagnosed with cataracts last October bless him and although at first they seemed to progress quite quickly they’ve actually taken quite a long time to ‘take over’ his eyes. I’ve noticed the last few days they’re whitening more, around the edges really and a tiny dot in the centre (the big one above is the camera’s fault!). The same in both eyes.

(With Aliona the bouncer keeping an eye on me! :xd:)
I didn’t see this with Sheepy (my RB boar who also had them) who’s eyes just all went white very quickly, much faster than Gigi’s have deteriorated poor lad.
I’m just wondering have others seen this kind of progression with their cataract piggies? I’m not particularly worried, why I didn’t put it in H&I, just interested really as they’re so different to how my other boys were.
Certainly not bothering him anyway!

Aww such a gorgeous boy, give him a hug for me.
The cloudiness in the middle is cattaract as you say but I think the white rim round the edge may be caused by a calcium overgrowth. Peanut had this in both eyes. It started growing when he was about 4 years old. I had it checked out by the vet and she said it was common and nothing to worry about but to take him back if it got worse. I would mention it at your next vet visit unless you get very concerned, then get it looked at anyway. This condition has a name which I can't remember at the moment (it's on the tip of my tongue!).
I've tried to search this condition on the forum but because I don't know the name of it I can't find anything!

Will do :D Oh right, thanks so much for that, I haven’t noticed that with any of my other piglets so presumed it was just the cataracts changing from blue to white etc. He’s around 3 now. I’ll have a look if I can find anything too then! :)
I’m going to get Jaws (was nail trim day so she wanted to eat me!) and Jasper in for a check up at C&R when the kitten lodger’s gone home and it’s less stressful so maybe I’ll have to take the porky pair in too! That’ll be fun with two carriers again! 🙈:))

Aw, Luigi, you handsome silver fox, you look so lovely and good to know you manage so well despite your eyes x

He’s blooming gorgeous my special boy  You wouldn’t know he had them if it wasn’t for his blue eyes!
Stoopid me thinking that the white edge was his cataract though! I need more sleep!:xd: x

Not stoopid @alpacasqueak you may be right. I am no expert!
You’re definitely more of an expert than me! I’ve heard of it with piglets but as I’ve been woken up getting slapped round the face by a kitten first thing for a couple of days I’d lost that bit of info somewhere! :xd: I’m not worried but may as well take him along too and see what they think :) Another eye thing though! 🙄:)) Thank you though xx

This is how Merab looked with fully developed cataracts.
Being blind didn’t hold her back.
She was such a beautiful girl :luv: So glad they didn’t stop her!
Luigi was upset a little when they first started but after a while even a little bump to the head doesn’t stop him either, as long as there may be some food in the direction he’s heading! :D
