Hi everyone,

Lu had her babies this morning, she had 2, one boy and one girl. But the girl can't walk and she just lays there. Her breathing also looks laboured compared to the boy. The boy is up and about and seems to be doing well.

Is there anything I can do for the little girl? I'm thinking she will pass away and its so sad.

They are both black/white but the girl has grey and white ticking all in her body. Is that a roan? I don't know about different colours etc. But isn't there something about roans that can be a problem? I have no idea who the father is.

Thanks,

Lynn

Don't worry about roan thing, only an issue if she was a lethal, caused by breeding roAn to roan- they are usually deformed, White, no teeth. Babies can look wobbly after birth, keep her warm and make sure mum isn't rejecting her. They have enough food in them to survive a few hours and sows might not produce milk for up to 12 hrs after birth, so keep an eye on mum and make sure she does have milk later and is feeding. Have you weighed the babies? Good weight is 70 - 120g ish at birth but I've had smaller ones survive (40g) with hand feeding

sorry for any typos, am on coach !

Hope all ok

Sophie

No advice just hope all goes well with the little one. Big hugs

Hi,
Thanks all. The little girl is looking more alert. I haven't weighed them I don't have a scale. They look big. They are the same size. The girl is trying to nurse and moves towards Mom and Lulu doesn't reject her. Lu was cleaning her butt. The girl is alert looking around but can't seem to walk properly. I am keeping an eye on them. Lu has them in a cuddlecup :)

will update!

It may take a while until your girl can walk properly (a day or two) if she was in a very cramped posittion in the womb; it can take time for everything to come to life and get working, so don't panic. You can help by very gently massaging her legs a bit as long as mummy is not upset.

Mummy has accepted her (cleaning her is a good sign), so she'll be OK!

I can't believe how adorable they are! I really pray the little girl survives and I've decided if she does I will be keeping her. Poor Lulu had babies so young and she won't be having anymore so she deserves to keep her daughter with her. The little boy was chewing on Lu's ear. haha. I can tell they are trying to nurse. I didn't want to disturb them so I'll check later if Lulu's milk has come in. She is exhausted right now and sleeping. I'm so proud of her. :) And I"m sooo relieved she survived the birth.

I will post some pics of them. Just have to upload them to photobucket. They aren't the greatest pics but at least you guys can see what they look like!

I had the exact same situation about a fortnight ago when my guinea gave birth.
The first baby was fine but the second just lay on his side. Whenever the mother nudged him up straight he'd fall over. After a few hours he was a different pig and he was up and about like his brother. She might just be a slow starter. Best of luck with the babies! I hope they're ok!
