Lulu 💖🌈 (Any idea on what could have happened?)

So in January one of my guinea pigs, Lulu died I was heartbroken, but I don’t really know how she died. About a week before she was all puffed up all day long, but that was just for one day, after that she was acting normal but she was still a little puffed up and her poops were like clumps of poop smooshed together with some normal poops mixed in and it smelled, we thought that she maybe was kind of constipaded we gave her son olive oil since a vet apt. would not have been able to get her in and we did not feel as though she needed to go to the urgent care. After a couple days she was acting normal just pooping less and drank a lot of water, and she was still a little but barely puffed up, and again we thought that she was getting better but the next day I went to feed them and shook the pellets bag and only my other Guinea pig came out so I reached into the hut touched her foot and she don’t move and at that point my heart dropped I grabbed her and (she was still warm) and I just started balling. We think she might have died of an obstruction, she was only 2 years old, any idea on what happened to her? I know it was my fault I should have taken her to the vet, but there is nothing we can do now. Rest In Peace Lulu

I’m sorry for your loss. Unfortunately no one can tell you the cause of death aside from a vet carrying out a necropsy. Unfortunately they can go downhill very quickly, that’s just their prey instinct. Hopefully the memories will slowly become happy rather than sad.

Sending hugs, it’s hard when you don’t know the reason why a pet died, the main thing is she had lots of love from you x

I'm so sorry for your loss, obstructions and constipation are very rare in guinea pigs, it sounds like she went into gut stasis which is where their guts stop or slow the movement of poop and food through their GI tract, this is very often secondary to another issue though so its impossible to say what was really going on.

She knew she was loved and had a great life I'm sure ❤
