I'm taking Lulu's little girl to the Vets today. Actually the whole family will go, Mom, brother and sister. I was in the Vets talking to the exotic Vet and she is going to look at them today. I don't see much improvement with the walking or balance with the baby. I believe it is neurological. Anyways, there probably isn't much we can do but I am wanting the Vets opinion as I can't find anything on the Net about this.

Back from Vets

I"m back from the vets now. The little girl has right brain damage. She thinks it happened during birth and she most likely has water on the brain. So sad... THe Vet doesn't think she'll thrive or improve but we are going to wait and see. SHe recommended supplementing her with cows milk because the brother is being very pushy and getting the milk more. Lulu has been laying on her side so only one side is free for nursing.

The boy weighs 120 grams and the girl is 80 grams. Oh and her heart is normal and breathing is normal, so that is good. I'm to keep note of her weight and hopefully she'll gain. If she does have water on the brain then most likely she will end up with seizures and in a coma before passing away. So we did talk about euthanasia but I'm not ready to give up on her yet.

What is everyone's opinion? And what do you think of her weight? She is 5 days old.

Thanks,
Lynn

I'm really sorry to hear that your suspicions were confirmed by the Vet. Very sad.

I'm afraid I don't have any experience or knowledge relating to this kind of thing but can only send my sincerest best wishes, hoping that the situation improves and she does indeed thrive. I'm sure you're giving her wonderful care and attention x

Hi Lynn, sorry to hear of the diagnosis for Lulu's little girl.

Her weight sounds ok, as long as she keeps gaining and doesn't just "sit" at this weight or lose any, then I too would give her a fighting chance. Instead of supplementing with cows milk, see if you can get hold of goats milk. Strictly speaking piggies shouldn't have dairy products but exceptions tend to be made for the tiny ones who need supplementing before they are fully weaned; goats milk is the closest nutritionally to guinea pig milk (I think).

I agree with Laura re the goats milk. Good luck with her - hope she goes from strength to strength.

Hi Lynn, I am so sorry to hear about poor little Lulu's little girl. It is so heartbreaking. I am glad though that you have decided to persevere a little longer, every chance is worth it for this little mite.

I'm sorry though that I can't offer any advice, as I'm new to being a GP owner and welcoming any advice from others.

Keep us informed though, I don't know what the outcome will be, but she is entitled to every chance possible. Best wishes. XX
