had to take pepper to the vet this morning, he has had mucous in his eyes recently, not loads, and his eyes were not closing or anything, appetite normal, looked up on here yesterday that a certain amout of this is normal, and they usualy wipe it away before you even notice it. but as i want to try to get our boys together decided not to chance anything.
well it appears that in his right eye, in the conjunctiva, he has a swelling, otherwise hie eye seems fine , i have been given ointment , and vet wants to see him in two weeks, has anyone else experienced anthing like this with their piggies?

i have been searching the internet for ideas as to what it might be, and have come up with eye pea, it loks similar, and is not harmful , and usually hereditary, but my vet said noyhing about this to me. i will of course arry on with drops and take him back in two weeks

If you could post a pic it may help. Pea eye is often called fatty eye, quite a common condition in older, heavier pigs and not usually anything to worry about.

Does it look a bit like this?

My Louise had this lump appear almost overnight, she has had problems with her eyes in the past. The vet prescribed Fucithalmic and it cleared up in about 7-10 days (sorry can't remember exactly).

I have had to use Fucithalmic a couple of times on her and (touch wood) has always cleared up any problems with her eyes. It seems to be a very good medication.

Hope whatever it is it clears up soon x

it would be hard to take a picture, but will try, it is tucked under the top of his eyelid, and you cant see it unless you lift up his lid, no it doe snt really look like the picture on here, it is more fleshlike, but does snt bother him, we only took him because of the discharge- the vet found the lump , and said it was unusual, and yes, he is an older, and rather large(ahem) piggy!

Fatty eye usually affects they lower eyelid so unlikely to be that after all. Has the ointment had any effect yet?

yes i think it has already had an effect, as i said before, he is well in himself, hie eyes are not red or inflamed, he has been mixing with the little ones, and they are showing no signs of a problem, so i think it is not infectious ( they were mixing before i thought he might have a problem, please dont think i am being irresponsible)
