Lump on a pigs chest area ( I think)

I've noticed a big lump on my pigs chest/neck area.

She is still eating and seems active the problem is when she reaches up for a drink it looks fine.

I haven't got them use to me that much yet. And honestly I'd rather not start trying to pick her up.

Also she is black and it's kind of hard to tell if it's normal.

What can I do? Just try and keep a eye on it?
 
I think a vet trip would be a good idea, somebody else will give you better advice soon
 
I would second a vet visit. It could just be a fatty lump but you won't know until you get it looked at.
 
Yes, vets check please as soon as possible all lumps need checking. Please let us know how you get on
 
I agree - it’s so much better to catch something quickly than risk a severe problem developing.
Also - it’s nice to be reassured.

Vet check, my old boar had one and it needed to be examined and tested to find out what it was
 
Well update. She has a abcest and have to feed her liquid antibiotics. Then take her back in a week. Fingers crossed
 
Hope the antibiotics work. Was she prescribed Baytril? If it was, and they don't do the trick, ask for Zithromax instead - it's the best antibiotic for abscesses, and though it isn't licensed for gp's, most tolerate it well enough. (I had one boar who had it repeatedly for URIs.)

Can't remember the vet filled a weeks worth of syringes up. But she said it's used on birds and they like don't mind the taste
 
I expect it's Baytril then it's very bitter and most piggies hate it. Have a nice treat to give your piggy afterwards to take the taste away.
 
Well update.

After 2 weeks of antibiotics he needs a operation. They say between 100 to 150 ££.

Wouldn't normally be a problem but coming upto Xmas. Anyway have to pay it. And no way to pay them off or anything.

At least he should get better

I know what you mean about vets fees. I’ve recently paid out £40 for a guinea pig £100 for one cat and now the other cat is having a dentel on Thursday at £250

I do have two vet funds, one for the guinea pigs and one for the cats but the cats one has more or less been wiped out. The cats are insured but it doesn’t cover dentals

It's a abcest. It has went down after 2 weeks but there is still a lump.

Wiukd I need to keep her separate after the operation?
 
There 2 females. I had noticed the other female has been licking the area where it is at.

Yep you are right @Claire W I did separate Christian after his abscess removal so that I could monitor what he ate and what he pooped. He was inside in the hospital cage and only when his appetite returned to normal did I return him to the herd. He did come out with the others for a bit in the evenings when everyone had floor time after his stitches had dropped out and then popped him back in the hospital cage. He had no problems fitting right back in the herd hierarchy when he went back with the herd. Tbh I think the other 4 missed him and were pleased to see him back.
 
I've only the 2 girls. Would it be OK for both to separate
 
Yes you can put a divider in the cage. It's important that you can monitor what your piggie eats after an operation and step in with syringe feeding if necessary.
