Hi All

We have two brother guinea pigs about 4 1/2 years old. I noticed a few days ago a bald patch on one of their backs. No lump or anything and it didnt hurt him to touch at all. My mum went to feed them this morning and noticed the other male chasing him around. We have parted them and noticed now that the bald patch has turned into a lump with a scab. It doesnt hurt him to touch at all and we are taking him to the vets when we take our dog for her booster.

I was wondering if anyone has had this and wondered if anyone knew what it might be. Am worried about him... :(

3 possibles here.

The other boar has bitten him and the wound has scabbed over.

He has mites

It is a cyst.

I do not advise taking the scab off,but is there any smell from the area that might suggest pus?

Is this the only scab and is there any dandruff in the hair?

How large is the lump under the scab?

Its not mites this time as there is no dandruff like normal. The lump is about an inch across and there is no smell around the area at all. Mum said that she did see the other biting his back so it is a possibility that its a bite.

Thanx very much to all who replied, will keep you all posted... Will give badger plenty of huggies and kisses Choloe :D

Badger is off to the vets tomorrow to get the lump checked out on his back. Looked at it this morning and the old scab is on it still on it and it is not bothering him at all so no change there. It doesnt appear to have gotten any smaller though either... Here is a few pictures of it at this link (They do look a bit blurry but I think you can get the jist)
