Hi, yesterday I noticed Lionel (4 year old boar) has a small lump underneath his grease gland. It has not always been there and looked a little tender. Does anyone know what this might be?

Thanks :)

Hello, sorry to read this. Please get any lump checked out by the vet, without veterinary diagnosis it is impossible to tell what kind of lump it is. Try not to worry as often lumps can be fatty and if caught early enough other sinister lumps can often be removed and piggies make full recevory.

Hi, thanks for replying :) He's already booked in to go to the vets on Monday to see William Lewis - he's not on the map but he is an exotics/smallies specialist. So I'll let you know how he gets on. Is it common to get them around the gland? Is there a common place for them to get them?!

I honestly don't know as I've never had boys only girls. Hopefully someone with some experience may be able to advise. Good you've got him to see an experienced exotic vet, please let us know how you get on.

I've heard of lumps popping up in all sorts of places. As Sport_Billy has said, thankfully most are harmless, but it is always best to get them checked out asap. I wouldn't say that lumps on grease glands are 'common', as this is the first that I've heard of, but that is not to say that they are rare either.

It may sound daft, but the lump must be very low down if it's below the grease gland. Where is it in relation to his 'boy bits' (to put it mildly!)?

Thanks again everyone :) I have now taken some photos showing where it is ;)

With more boy bits in ;) :

Hmmm....I've honestly no idea what that may be, but I'm sure the vet can shed some light on it tomorrow. Good luck, and let us know how he gets on.

Took him in today and the vet says it's a papiloma and nothing to worry about :D We're just to monitor it and take him back if it grows big or bleeds or anything like that.

Thanks for the update. It's a relief that the vet thinks the lump is benign. It's always best to get any lumps checked out, even if it's just for your own peace of mind :)

Yeah I agree, I feel much better knowing that the vet is happy with it :) Thank you for all your help :)
