Toffee my guinea pig who is elderly i've noticed has a lump on his shoulder. It has like a scab over the top of it. It is moveable and soft. he's also been itching a lot. I know i should take him to a vet but he gets stressed very easily and wanted to see if anyone on her could help first.

Hope noone minds me posting i will introduce myself eventually. :)

Thanks

Here is a picture of the lump i took.

Hi Sarah,

I have no advice.. I hope the wee guy gets better. I'm sure someone that knows something will be along soon!

Goodness that is very swollen, Vets ASAP. Tomorrow if possible. It looks to be an abscess. IF this is the case it will need to be drained (will not tell how to do that over the internet) He shouldnt need to be under a G.A. as they should be able to lance it without putting him under. It may be a bit more serious though. How long has he had this lump?

I've only ever had one "lump" to deal with in my pigs & it was an abcess but it was hard, it did have a scab on it but when this was removed i was able to push out the pus & treat it accordingly; the pig was seen by a vet.

I wouldn't like to hazard a guess (which is what it would be) at what Toffee's lump is but there will be more knowledgable people on later today.

Does it cause him any discomfort? Is he eating & drinking normally?

Thanks for all your replies. Yes he is eating and drinking as normal, and still really active.

Welcome to the forum Sarah. :)

His shoulder does look very swollen, does it feel soft and squishy where the swelling is all around the scab?

The size of the lump is a secondary matter. Of more importance is the diagnosis of what the lump is.
