Lump on neck and head tilt

It helps if we are “a bit nutty” I find! No really you are doing a great job, and people may laugh but underneath they know what a caring loving Mum you are to him x

How is Chunk, hope he’s feeling better x
He’s ok, still not eating any solid food yet though. I have started him on Emeraid today thanks to @Betsy :) he’s not a massive fan but I can’t decide whether he just doesn’t like it or it is making him fuller quicker. I’m hoping it will get some weight on him, he is so skinny :( will just have keep going with the feeding and keep offering food too. On a plus note, he actually seems to be sleeping normally again for the first time since he’s been poorly, he’s been flopped out in his hay rather than hunched up and miserable looking.

I was wondering if it arrived OK. :hmm:So glad it did. :) It'll be making him feel fuller quicker. How much is he having? Betsy didn't have half as much Emeraid as she did mushed up pellets.

Sorry I meant to message you and completely forgot! I managed about 6ml at lunchtime and just done 9ml now. He’s fighting it off more than mushed pellets and critical care but I was feeding him 15ml at a time of that. I’m hoping it’s just filling him up quicker, makes me want to cry when I can see his hip bones sticking out :(

Aw, it’s an awful time for you both, we have all been there, a rollercoaster of a ride, that has its ups and it’s downs. Keep positive and hold in there, we are all rooting for little Chunk.

That's a lot of Emeraid! Betsy preferred the taste of Emeraid to mushed up pellets but all piggies are different. Hopefully you'll see some weight gain soon. I take it you are weighing Chunk daily?

I’m just going to keep going with the emeraid to get the weight back on, he has managed to stay at 850g for the last few days but need to get that back up :) might add in the odd syringe of mushed pellets here and there to keep him interested :)

The mushed pellets will put weight on, just the same as the recovery foods. If he likes the emeraid then that's great, but if he's not keen then just give mushed pellets. You could add a bit of emeraid to the mushed pellets. I also add a scoop of probiotic to mushed pellets. Veg based baby food is also good, either added to mushed pellets or fed separately. I play around with the various foods and also feed different ones, so they get a variety. Little Benji would have about 5 mls of one, then would like something different and so on. I guess, a piggy who is eating normally will gets lots of different tastes, so I think it is good for those being syringe fed to experience the same. I aim for 100 - 120 mls of syringe food per 24 hours but will feed as much as the piggy will take. Some will take 30 mls in one sitting but others prefer smaller amounts, more often.

Mixing and matching is not a bad idea, thanks! The same taste over and over must get boring. I’m going to try lots of little and often feeds today but I’m really limited in the week because of work.

Whenever we have sick guinea pigs, we usually have 3 syringes every feeding. One is critical care, one is liquidise carrot or cucumber or melon (whichever they prefer during that time), and one is mushed pellets. Every 5mls, we alternate what we give. We also try to give them solids to see if they will eat it every feeding. If you can get fresh grass, then that would be a great treat for them.

I will give that a go :) just feeding him now and the mushed pellets are definitely going down better than emeraid at the minute. I’ll pop out and try and get hold of some veggie baby food. I have tried him several times with grass but he just can’t seem to chew with his back teeth, only nibble with the fronts. I think we may need to go back and see Kim and get them taken down again.

Although Kim is brilliant for diagnostics and also a very good vet for dental stuff, Simon does have the edge when it comes to anything dental. Maybe when you go back, get an appointment with Simon. Simon does many more dentals than Kim, so it might be worth getting him to take a look too. Also the Zithromax might be impacting the appetite but if you can keep it going, it is the best antibiotic for dealing with something like this.

That’s good to know thank you :D I will see if he is available. Kim did warn me about the Zithromax, talk about rock and a hard place!

Simon works afternoons, plus Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, but you would need to make sure it was him if it was a Monday or a Friday as both work those mornings.

Both are also off a couple of days this coming week (Tuesday and Thursday) and then a couple of days the week after.

If you have a blender, just use it to liquidise the veggies (but don't blend/mix it together). That's better as its fresh. I find it that my piggies prefer that than the baby food from shops. Oh and please don't blend leaves, it stinks when liquidised 🤮🤮🤮

How is Chunk today?
How are you?

He came out from the back of his cage to greet me this morning which he hasn’t done for a week and a half so that cheered me up! He is giving me headbuts now when he has had enough which means he is getting his usual attitude back! I think we are slowly getting there 🤞🏻🤞🏻

He seemed to enjoy it, then dribbled some down his face then had a clean and spread it EVERYWHERE 😂
I love it when they have a clean and then they make themselves dirtier!

So it sounds like Chunk has turned the corner :yahoo:

We have had a positive weekend then what with Miss Jezabel Floofy Pants @PigglePuggle and Mr Chunk both seemingly on the road to recovery.:)

He came out to greet me again this morning and again before I left the house to go and see to the horses 😁 he is booked in Friday morning for a follow up dental appointment, hopefully we can get the little man eating again 🤞🏻

Good luck to Chunk on Friday. We will be at Cat & Rabbit on Friday to see Simon for Prince's dental check up. Prince broke one of his bottom teeth in the middle of the night or this morning, but he is still eating and has the same weight. Hopefully he can last until his next dental and we won't have to move it forward.
