posting new thread so most folk can see it.. Mallow was spayed 8 days ago, had her check on tuesday and all was fine. Scar healing well. The problem is shes developed a lump near the incision- too hard to be pus and not disappearing when pressed in genty so not likely a hernia. Isnt painful, no redness heat or pus. Any ideas? Its very prominent when stomach held loose but still clearly visible when held straight. (Excuse messy hair, needs bathed but wasnt sure if safe to do so yet)

My Petal had a slight lumpy bit when she was spayed, it went a few weeks later on, I would think it's just where it's knitting together but maybe ring the vet Monday for more advice & get it checked out x

Hi @Adelle

I would take her back to the vet as they will be able to tell you what it is and if it is still healing properly. As this is still to do with the initial spay I would have thought there would be no cost. When I had my rabbit spayed just a few weeks ago her wound had basically healed within the first week before her check up. I think it was completely healed and you could hardly even see the wound after 2 weeks.

Always better to be safe. Hope all goes well. xx

Also I would not bath her until the wound is totally healed.

Hi @Adelle I think I'd get the vet to check her over just in case. I know they do get thickening where they heal but it can mask a developing abscess so I think it's best to let the vet see it.

The vet said the same, thickening. Thanks

I know that they heal differently from us, which can make it difficult to tell whether it's just thickening (scar tissue I suppose) or something else. I'm just glad she's ok X

Its pretty impressive, really noticable. Just hope it subsides or else she'll have a very lumpy tummy! Crunchie ended up with an infection in her wound 2 weeks post op, and hers didnt even look as bad as hers does thickening wise. The wound itself its lovely n neat!

If you mean the lump as in the swelling all around, if it is squishy then that is probably just a bit of fluid that sometimes appears after ops, keep an eye on it & ring the vet for a chat tomorrow x
