My one of my unneutered boars, Lenny, has a hard lump beside his right nipple; the nipple itself was also bleeding, but he seems in no discomfort. I only just realised when I picked him up noticed blood on my t-shirt then on further investigation found blood coming from his nipple, then saw the lump. It's small, solid and doesn't seem to be bothering him. He's acting totally normally. Lenny is about three years old but I don't know for sure. He's going to the vets tomorrow, but in the meantime, does anyone have any idea what it could be? Worried about him :(

Good that you are having him checked by a vet. Boars can get mammary tumors, too.

Wishing you all the best!

Oh gosh, I hadn't even considered that it might be a tumour, but it's in exactly the right place to be a mammary tumour. Well, we know a wonderful cavy vet thankfully, but please keep fingers and paws crossed for little Lenny tomorrow....hopefully it's 1) not a tumour; 2) if it is a tumour, benign and won't pose my baby boy any problems.

Been to vets earlier today.

Was prescribed a two week course of loxicom (meloxicom) anti-inflammatory in the hopes that 'it' will go down, if not (or if anything changes) I have to contact vets again for them to take a sample....but they didn't want to operate unnecessarily particularly as we aren't 100% on his exact age.
He loves the loxicom though.

One of my first piggies had a harmless lump on his nipple it was easily removed and suffered no lasting damage and he lived till he was 6 (lump removed at 18months). Hope your little guy is okay x

Update!

Lump is much smaller. Vet instructed me to squeeze out as much gunk from the lump as possible whilst he's on the loxicom course.

The only downside is I have been holding him on his back end to clean out lump the lump and administer the loxicom....so now he'll lie himself on his back when I pick him up in the hopes of being given some yummy anti-inflammatory. Lol. It's so cute.
