I swear Anselmo does these things to himself to make me worry!

About 4 months ago the vet was happy with his treatment (for bladder sludge) and so reduced his need to visit to everu 6 months and I can ring in for his med's's whenever between.

Since then he's already been and has been diagnosed with "pretty bad" arthritis.

A couple of days ago I noticed him scrunching his face on one side when I gave him his med's. He was still eating okay and everything seemed fine.

Today I've noticed a lump under his eye. It moves around and doesn't have a head. His skin is black so it's hard to see even after trying (and failing) to trim his hair. But I can't see anything obvious.

I've just attempted to bathe it to try to draw a head but again nothing.

He's eating fine, he's just had his dinner including a bit of hard carrot, and his front teeth are fine.

So, back to the vet as soon as I can get an appointment.

The lump is closer to his eye than his mouth but you can never be too careful. I'm sure this guy just loves making me spend money!

I can't get into the Cat and Rabbit clinic until next Thursday, so if anyone has any pointers or things to watch out for in the meantime I'd be really grateful.

I have access to another vet if it becomes an emergency but as it's on his face, and might cause teeth problems I'd rather wait until I can see Kim next week.

Id keep an eye on It, If it grows rapidly or starts affecting his eye or mouth then I'd have him seen sooner.

Hopefully it's harmless x

Are there no appointments or can you not there sooner? If it's you can't get there, I'm more than happy to take him for you, if you bring him over at a time to suit you xx

@furryfriends (TEAS) Thank you for the offer! I asked for the first Kim appointment (as it's easier for me to get there in the morning, and I imagine she's a bit quieter than than Simon) I was told next Thursday morning is the soonest.

I'll see how he is tonight and over the weekend and I'll update on how he is. I'll give them a call tomorrow if I think he needs to be sooner x

Well, my lumpy old guy is currently at the vet and will be having the lump removed today by uncle Simon.

Kim thinks it's some kind of cyst as it's quite moveable under the skin. But as it's quite close to his eye she thinks it'll cause him problems in the future if we let it grow. It could make his eye lid droop or cause the lid to turn inwards. Plus, it could affect his mouth and we don't want dental issues at his age (6.5years).

Also, if we leave it any longer and it grows it will be difficult to remove as there's not really much skin in that area that will stretch over a wound.

Thankfully I took a packed lunch for him with us, and he has his SnuggleSafe. He's stayed at various vets for the day before, including The Cat and Rabbit clinic, and he's had a few anaesthetics, so I'm sure he'll be okay, Plus, he's in the best of hand with Simon and Kim.

Nonetheless I'll be watching the phone like a hawk waiting for the call to come through to say he's okay.

He'll be a grumpy guy tonight as Kim checked his back teeth when I was there earlier, and he wasn't very happy, So, I'll need to stop at Tesco on the way back for supplies. I think I'll need to do a lot of bribing!

It'll be nice to see you. It's been ages since I've seen you properly. I'm really rubbish but I should make more of an effort to come and visit TEAS and help out where I can.

If I do see you I'll have a quick chat with you about it. If not I'll send you a message on here or an email xx

How did it go? X

It all went okay, but I'm a bit worried as he was quite bloated when I collected him and still is now.

He's moving around okay but isn't pooping or eating as much as I'd like him to be by now. I've given him Emerprid and Gripe Water but he's still quite swollen.

I'm going to see if I can get to finish work early today to try to deal with him properly.

I think I do, but I'll happily get an appointment with my local vet later if I need to.

He's been out for floor time for an hour. He will potter around and I got one of my other pigs to tempt him to move around more.

He seems bright still, not puffed up or squinty eyes like he does when he's really bloated.

He will eat, I've given him Critical Care and hay. When he's in his cage he prefers to snuggle up into his hay and not bother eating.

He's peeing and pooping. He was covered in pee when I got him out earlier and his poops are getting better.

So I think if I can keep on top of him eating then I think we'll ger through it okay.

He's had poop soup too!

Yeah, when I left him this morning he wasn't anywhere near as bad as his previous emergency vet visit bout of bloat.

He does like to stress me! I'm just a bit concerned as he usually bounces back from surgery, but he is 6.5years old, so I can't expect him to be Superpig every time! xx

How is he this evening?

He was better but not 100%.

Not as bloated but he felt more like he did when he was younger (he's quite boney now with his arthritis).

He also wasn't really interested in his veg, just his hay and was still dribbling wee.

So I kept up with the Emeprid and Gripe Water and got him out for floor time with his enemy Podrick.

He was eating enough hay and wandering around enough for me to let him be for the night. 20161118_062124.webp

And here he is this morning. He really wanted his Metacam, which is how he usually is on a morning. And he even stood up at the bars!

So I think that means he's okay again.

Thank you for asking about him x20161119_090752.webp

Quick update:
Anselmo is back to eating okay and also drinking water, which is odd as he's never drank plain water. But I'm not going to complain as it can only help his sludge problems.

His stitches look good as his hair is growing back.

He has lost 80g, in the 2 days of not eating properly. It was quite a struggle as he was terribly bloated so I didn't want to shove too much food into him, but still wanted to feed him enough to keep his digestive system moving.

It does show how quickly they can lose weight and how important it is to make sure you syringe feed at the first sign of them not wanting to eat.

He's now hovering around 1130g which isn't too bad for a 6.5 year old. I don't think I'll be able to get him to gain it again due to his arthritis causing muscle loss and his bladder issues restricting what he can eat.

I've been so happy to see him coming out for his breakfast this week. I love the little guy, he's a tough old boot.
