Lump under jaw?

Hello all!

My sister have a guinea pig that's around two years old now! He is happy, playing eating etc! But for some reason he sometimes gets a "lump" under his jaw? Feels like some kinda of sugar thats become stiff? When i google the issue, most come to the conclusion that it's a abscess, but we usally just take a wet cotton pad, and place it on the lump for a few min, and we can remove the lump? I have really not clue what it is, and hope some of you could help! It's not everyday he gets the, only sometimes.
 
Is it stiff? And is it on the inside or outside? And does he live alone or with another piggy? I’m not sure that an abscess would go away after holding a wet cotton pad on it.

You are welcome to post a photo of the lump/area. However, I’d advise you get him checked out at the vet.

Hello! Yes it's stiff! It's on the outside, he lives alone. When viewing videos or pictures with abscess, it's no where close to that! My guess is it's some fruit sugar that's he don't clean so it becomes stiff?
 
Where would the fruit sugar come from? Doesn’t sound like an abscess though. What does what falls off look like?

Hi

Are you sure that it is not something that dribbles out of his mouth or sticks under his chin and dries?

Any lumps sitting either loosely inside the skin or firmly underneath it won't just disappear just with a wet rag and then reappear. They are a solid round mass and will usually continue to grow.
You may however want to check the incisors as to whether they have an even, clean edge or whether they are slanted, jagged or pointing inwards and are no longer self-sharpening neatly against other. Any anomality will generally point to a problem with the grinding molar teeth or incisor roots at the back of the mouth, which causes irregular/one-sided chewing and then the growth of dental spurs. Dental overgrowth can cause dribbling and a wet chin. This is not a fail-safe check but a good indicator as to whether you need to see a vet over a potential dental problem.

Alternatively, you may want to watch how your boy is drinking and eating; some are messier than other.

PS: What is the diet like you are feeding?

A good diet should be at least three quarters of unlimited hay, a small portion of preferably green veg (just a small bowl/50g, ca one fifth of the daily food intake) and just 1 tablespoon of pellets per piggy per day. Carrot and fruit should at the best be just an occasional treat as they are essentially life shortening.
