my male guinea pig about 5-6 months old , has just now developed a medium to large size lump under his neck. I didn’t notice it yesterday and i am worried. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him but I still need to know what this is or what to do.

Hi!

Please see a vet tomorrow. It could be an abscess from a bite since he is right in the thick of the teenage months (I assume he has a same age mate?). He will need an antibiotic and may need to have it drained and keep it drained; if the abscess is already starting to swell up quickly, you need to see a vet promptly. Lumps can come up very quickly unfortunately. :(

Please contact us for further advice on possible support care in addition to medical care when you know what it is. We cannot give you a diagnosis without a hands-on examination in the case of lumps.

You need to see a vet and promptly. One of my Rainbow Piggies had a huge abscess come up on his neck virtually overnight and I took him to the vet the next day who lanced it and gave me baytril and metacam for him but unfortunately he only lived for a week after his vet visit. I am of course not suggesting this will happen with your piggy just letting you know how urgent the matter may be. Lenny was 5 years old so he may have died of old age and it was just a coincidence and bad timing that the abscess came at the same time.

Agree with others.
Vet immediately.
I’ve had to deal with abscesses and if caught quickly they can be treated.
