Eliza has had a lump now for the last few months. It is on her side, near her back leg. It is about the size of a pea, is hard and dry and doesn't move when it is rolled. I am not concerned about it as my vet suggested to leave it well alone unless it changes or gets bigger. She also explained that guinea pigs can get unexplained lumps from time to time. I am pleased to say that it has stayed the same but I am just interested to find out what it could be.

could it be like a ganglion? there just hard gel filled lumps that can cause no harm but just a nuance xx

It sounds like it could be a fatty lump - AP is good with explaining this kind of thing more specifically. It's good that Eliza is not bothered by the lump and it's not grown.

Lipoma, fibroma, whatever!
I have pigs with lumps, I tend to leave well alone unless there is an over-riding reason to remove them.

Hiya,

Sounds like a sebaceous cyst to me. These tend to occur on the back or hip area, although they can come up anywhere. Unless you are worried or it gets very very big or uncomfortable, i would leave well alone.

My piggy has a lump and although the vet wanted to remove it at a cost of £180.00 I decided to leave it and keep an eye on it. That was about 3 weeks ago and he is a fine healthy piggy, eating and running about as normal. The lump hasnt changed at all, if it does get bigger I will take him back to the vet of course but I suspect it is a cyst or somthing similar. He just needs a bath now!

Agh,£180! i'm not suprized you decided to leave itmallethead my vet only charged £100 for multiple lump removal , laboratory biopsy and full histology report , it turned out to be lymphomas (fatty lumps ) , they are the most common but not always

so personally I would always get a suspect lump examined by a vet ,
