I was feeling in Africa's fatty bit under his chin/on his neck and theres this lump... it's not attached to anything because I can feel all around it.. and it doesn't hurt... could it be something dangeous?@)

It isn't noticeable to the eye, it isn't on the skin, its near his throat, under the flappy skin/fat he has around his chin like a small round lump inside his neck

It sounds most like Thyroid adenoma, I don't get paid until the 3rd of Feb so do you think it's possible for him to wait that long? My mom had a go at me when I rang her saying he needed to go the vet, she said I've no money, you've no money and the last one died Renate. Don't take him to the vet *** it costs too much... I just called her a heartless cow and that she didn't understand what my guinea pigs meant to me and a few other things and we put the phone down on each other... =[

I can afford, I just get paid every fortnight and my pigs seem to like to get sick when I've either just spent my money or its the damn weekend. I don't know what to do, as far as I can see, he isn't losing weight, i dont usually weigh him just go by how he's body is. He gets fat when he eats and thin when he hasn't... I'll weigh him tonight somehow and monitor him until I get paid in 2 weeks.

The lump gives him no pain and is low on his next, not near the surface.

Sorry for the double post... I just weighed him, he's 1.1kg or 2.2lb lol I don't know how it works... he's 1100grams... does that make sense? I looked at the weight part of the site and he's neither underweight or over weight for a male adult guinea pig so =]

Thyroid adenoma? Why do you think that?
They are among the rarest forms of malignant tumours found in guinea pigs.

It could be an abscess, a fibroma or an enlarged lymph node opr a sebaceous cyst.
These are common types of lumps in the neck.
Can you please give a more accurate description of where the lump is or even post a photo, pointing out the position?

Is the lump hard or soft and what is it's size?
In the meantime, don't panic!
Apologies, I see you found the reference on the Guinea lynx site.......
No wonder you are thinking the worst, I repeat, don't panic.

Aye it was that link, and it's the only one that seems like it is all. I'm not panicing much, I'm more angry with my mom and a tad scared *** of lack of money and recently losing Leo too...

Hmm I checked this morning, it's on his left size (when you are holding a guinea pig nose towards you) it's in the middle i think.. not above his paw and not below the chin, it feels like it isn't attached to anything, as in I can feel right around it, it's a round ball and is hard, a little smaller then a galaxy minstral lol It doesn't hurt when I touch it or sqeesh it... he's getting a bit annoyed with me poking him there tho even tho i've only done so 3 times lol.

If a picture would help I'll have to post one on Sunday as I'm going to visit my mom now, check on her 'medication' change.

He's eating, beating up Corly and running around (drinking too, he never stops usually =]) so he isn't going down hill as of yet, he feels fat today because of his fresh food last night.

i hope this is enough information. Thanks again!

Hi, am back, he's still eating and drinking, he weights a tad less but that may be the food in his stomach. He still feels fatish... Ermm He doesnt like me touching the lump at all now and i feel something like it on the other side :S almost like glands... it isn't as easy to feel as the other one... but I don't think it's grown, altho I can now feel it without poking too deep into his fur :S

Hi, I hope Africa is doing ok. Did you ever figure out what the lumps are? My guinea pig, Oreo, has the exact same thing you described, in the same place, but he has 2 equally sized lumps. I can't find any info on the internet about 2 symetrical lumps on the neck - it is almost like glands, or something, like you said. Any info you can give me about what you learned about Africa's lumps would really help! :-)

Depending on the exact position they could be part of the cervical lymph node chain.

The are in the fatty part of his neck, closer to his chest than his neck. Do you know of any sites that would have a diagram of the lymph node chain? I really don't think these are cysts or tumors and I know they aren't abcesses. Thanks!
