I took Luna to the exotics specialist at our local animal hospital this morning. She's still losing weight down to 900g from 1200g in the last 6 months.
She's eating and drinking normally and still acting happy.
The vet found her chest and throat area is swollen. She thinks it's either cardiac or respiratory. Luna is having an xray to find out.
The vet said both conditions are treatable, so fingers crossed there's hope.

Fingers firmly crossed for Luna!

Sending you best wishes for a positive outcome

Sending love to Luna! Hope she is feeling better soon ❤️

Best of luck for Luna, of course we cant predict what the vet will find but perhaps she has some fluid build up and her heart needs a bit of help, in which case a diuretic medicine might help sort things out. Keep us posted, sending healing wheeks! X

Well Luna has fluid on the lungs. She's been using up extra energy to breathe so she lost weight :(
She's got Frusol (diuretic) to get rid of the excess fluid and Co-Trim (antibiotics) in case there's an infection. I'm also going to give her Fibreplex so the antibiotics don't upset her tummy too much.
I'm taking her back next Wednesday for a check up.
I'm so glad I listened to my instincts and took her to a specialist. My normal vet said they couldn't find anything wrong.
Tip for the day - you know your guinea pig best, if you think there's something wrong keep asking.

Glad you saw the vet and got a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, hope the meds do the trick x

I did that with Meg. My vet is very good with piggies but she's not a specialist. She couldn't find anything wrong with Meg but I knew there was. A trip to Northampton soon proved me right.

You are so right. Your instincts told you something was off and you were spot on. Luna is so lucky to have such an attentive and intuitive owner. Hope she does ok on her new meds x
