This mornin I was woken up to Luna making a horrible noise. It sounded like she was squeaking while he was breathing so I picked her up to have a cuddle. As soon as I lay down and gave her a cuddle (under a blanket :))), she stopped and was just quiet? She seems fine in herself, licking my face, purring and having a snooze. It's just the initial shock of waking up to her making that noise. I put her back in her cage and she hasn't made that noise since. I'll keep an eye on her until 10am but after that I can't because I have a funeral to go to :(
Any idea what this noise could have been because of?

Hm, it's hard to say. Guinea pigs can make all kinds of bizarre noises for all kinds of reasons. It sounds like maybe something was aggravating her but your cuddle time calmed her down. Maybe she was simply trying to tell you she wanted some cuddles?

If it was only that one time and she's been acting normally, eating, drinking, being active, etc., and hasn't made the noise at all since, I wouldn't panic too much. It might have just been a one time thing, but keeping an eye on her is always a good thing. If she starts doing it constantly and she starts to behave abnormally, a trip to the vet's might be in order. She might be in pain from a medical condition. I can't give any advice in the medical section, as I'm still a beginner guinea pig owner, though.

And I'm very sorry for your loss. :(

Thanks. I was just pretty worried. I'll keep an eye on her and take her to the vet if she starts doing it again. I said to my Dad this morning that I wanted to take her to the vets but he told me that if she stopped making the noise, then the vets might not be able to do anything about it. Maybe I should start listening to him more in future. Lol :)

Oh, don't worry about it. I just got my two boys yesterday and I'm such a nervous mother hen, jumping and panicking at the slightest little thing and constantly asking if such-and-such is normal or not here. I feel like I'm driving everyone bonkers sometimes, heh heh. I know how it is to worry about your piggy, especially if they suddenly do something you're not used to seeing them do, but it's good that you're paying attention to that kind of stuff because sometimes, your piggy might be trying to tell you something's wrong and if you weren't being attentive, you would miss it.

Did you happen to notice if she was having a wee/poo when she was doing the squeaking? Try and give her some floor time today to make sure that she is doing both normally without any discomfort, and that her wee is the normal colour.

If she wasn't weeing/pooing at the time of the noise, but that it did come from her breathing, then it is important that you keep a close eye on her. It may be a sign that something is up.

But guinea pigs do make all sorts of weird and wonderful noises that are completely normal, and as a new owner you are understandably more aware of them. I'm sure Luna is absolutely fine, but it's best to watch her closely, just in case :)

Sorry to hear that you also have a funeral to go to today.

Just got back.
Thanks for the replies. She is no longer making the noise, so I think it was just a one off, but I'll keep an eye on her to make sure she is okay.
