I'm so happy, I had to share.

My 4 1/2 year old sow Buttercup was diagnosed wit ovarian cysts in February. Spay is not an option, she has a few other health issues and that combined with age closes that door.

We tried draining the cysts with not much success, and a lupron injection.

It's working! We noticed MUCH less hormonal behavior within a few days. She used to chase, mount and intensely rumble at her cage mate several times every single day. Now it's more like a day or two every few weeks like normal.

Yesterday I took her for a recheck and another lupron. Vet says she looks great! Cysts are not gone but smaller. Fur on her sides has grown back!

I'm just so happy because I knew it would only work if the cysts were a certain type, and that we were guessing.

Glad that your injections have worked in view of a spaying operation not being an option for you. I hope that more injections can further shrink the cysts. :tu:

If you have the classic signs of hair loss and crusty nipples, you are very much dealing with hormonal cysts. The more common variety are the non-hormonal fluid-filled cysts that do not cause any symptoms and that often go unnoticed unless they grow very large.

Yup, she had those classic signs. We're waiting for the crust to drop off. Even that doesn't look like it's getting worse but it's still there.
Hi..I just saw this looking for info.. I suspect one of my other girls is now suffering.. just had one operated on and was wondering how much the Injections are? If they are an option once she has been checked by my vet..

Hi! I'm in the US and with my pig's weight, the injection is $100. She's had two so far, about 8 weeks apart, and she won't get one again till she starts acting hormonal again.

It's been wonderful. Hair grown back and no longer rumblestrutting/humping 24/7. One of her nipples is still a little crusty, bur both have shrunk down.

What kind of operation did your pig have?

My other pig has had her ovaries removed... I have 3.. sorry didn't notice you were in the US. The rumble strutting and humping has increased loads since the other pig had her operation!

Interesting! Is that her only symptom? Id watch for bald patches on her sides and crusty nipples too. And we only did lupron because the vet wasnt willing to spay or remove ovaries.
