Today we said goodbye to Mabel. She was the longest standing resident of the piggy room. She came to us as a skinny 14 week old sow who’d been bought as a birthday present for a child who had rejected her because of her ruby eyes. She came to live with my big and boisterous Miss Mollie who was alone after the death of Mr Ted. She was the only pig other than Mr Ted that Mollie ever tolerated and sadly last summer while Mabel was recovering from a spay Mollie decided she wasn’t going to live with her any more. A very sad, sore and sorry Mabel had to convalesce on her own before being introduced to my other group of sows where she promptly made best friends with Holly (the Aby).
Sadly she’d had a rough 12 months battling illnesses, injury and pain. The decision to have her PTS was taken after lengthy investigations and with her best interests at heart to free her from pain. I’m heartbroken to lose a second piggy in a week.
Mabel will be sadly missed by us all. She will be remembered for her legendary skills at carrot cottage and wicker ball destruction, her good natured grumpiness, her speed at evading capture, and her ever constant greeting when I entered the piggy room. She (together with her side kick Holly) were instantly up at the bars like a pair of meerkats to find out what was happening. The piggy room is subdued this afternoon without her.
Farewell my ruby eyed beauty. I’m going to miss you xx

What a stunningly beautiful girl! You gave her the world and I'm 110% sure she knew that. Take care of yourself and cuddle all your other piggies to make you feel better!
Rest in peace gorgeous Mabel, enjoy popcorning over the rainbow bridge!

That's so sad! I couldnt even imagine losing a piggy or having to make a pts decision...
Poor Mabel, but from the photos it looks like she had a very happy life with you. She was a very beautiful piggy. Hugs and sad wheeks from the PigglePuggle herd x

Vicki, I am so sorry for the loss of your stunning little lady, she was so beautiful and sounded like such a wonderful character to have around, you really did all you could for her and she had such a perfect life with her friends and you. Massive hugs to you

Sleep well little one

RIP Mabel
x x

So sorry for your loss Vicki, it must be a difficult time for you right now x

How terribly sad. Sometimes we have to make the decision for them. You did it with love in your heart and that is all that any of us can do. She knew how much she was loved. She needed help to cross the Rainbow Bridge and you did that for her. She is no longer suffering and is in the prime of her life once again and playing and popcorning with those that have gone before her. Sleep well gorgeous girl.

Take time for yourself @VickiA you did what you had to do no matter how hard it is. You put Mabel first and ended her suffering.

So sorry for your loss.
Mabel was such a beauty and she landed on her paws with you.
You made a hard decision out of love for Mabel.
Now you need to allow yourself time to grieve and be gentle with yourself

What a lovely tribute to your gorgeous Mabel, Vicki. Be kind to yourself :hug:xx

Mabel had such a wonderful life with you. You gave her love and made the right decision for her at the end of her life. RIP little lady. x

Thank you all for your support. The tears are never far away at the moment. Editing my signature has brought it home to me how many piggies I have lost in recent years and the last 7 days especially.
This decision is the one I have struggled with the most. She was a very brave and fearless pig. She had a peaceful passing and is free of pain. We have buried her alongside Sylvia in the garden. I am still heartbroken.

I'm not surprised, you've lost two of your babies and that's never, ever going to get easier. Take care of yourself too.

Popcorn free little Mabel, you fought a good fight x

I understand how you feel.
I still miss my beautiful Keziah very much.
Grief takes time and hits at unexpected moments.
It’s harder when there have been a few in such a short space of time.
Every one reopens all the wounds afresh.
We’re here for you

Feel for you and wish I could help xx

:soz:Aww beautiful Mabel
sorry to hear you've lost your battle, we all know that your slave couldn't have done any more for you & paid the ultimate price of love to end any pain or suffering & let you go to rainbow bridge.
Popcorn pain free with Sylvia. RIP sweetheart.
Vicki - take some time out to look after yourself too, it must have been an emotional, roller coaster few weeks, love & hugs the girls & I.xx
