Mabel has had a bit of a rough time recently. She lived very happily with Mollie. They passed their time very happily destroying things, speed eating, practising their wheeking and snuggling up together.
All that ended when Mabel had an emergency spay 2 weeks ago for pyometra (a nasty womb infection). Mollie went with Mabel to the vets for company and support but when they came home Mollie decided that she wasnt going to love and care for Mabel as she recovered. Instead she was going to evict Mabel. A bit of low grade bullying escalated into a full on attack on poor Mabel less than 24 hours after her major surgery.
Poor Mabel was moved into my hospital cage to protect her. A week later, and after all the usual mixing and matching steps and cage neutralisation I split their c and c with a divider and out one in each side. Mabel cowered for her life in the far corner while Mollie tried to break down the divide or when that failed, tried to climb over it, clearly intent on seeing Mabel off.
So it was on to Plan B. This week Mabel has been in her hospital cage next to Poppy and Holly, then in a divided c and c cage with Poppy and Holly on the other side, with all bedding being swapped betweeen the girls to mix and match their scent. Today after a couple of hours in the bonding pen Mabel has moved in with her new roommates.
And she has even found someone to share a hay tray with and someone to sit under a stool with. And today for the first time since her spay we have seen our Mabel popcorning.
