Sadly I had to take leave of Maelog on Saturday. Maelog (whose Welsh Tribe name means “Battle Prince”) was 6-7 years old and much beloved by his ladies. Yet another of my oldies gone… :(

It is 4 years to the month that Mallow and his beloved Rosa arrived as temporary fosters for The Excellent Adventure Sanctuary to make space for an emergency intake. They went back to the Sanctuary for a couple of months in early summer, but came back again and stayed for good. I formally adopted Maelog at Christmas 2015.

Here is a video of Maelog's and Rhosyn's first big zooming session on the living room floor:

As a permanent foster Maelog took over the just vacated slot as husboar to my then Elderlies group of older and frail Tribe sows for whom the big group had become a bit too much.

When Rhosyn’s unexpected passing and a quick succession of my old ladies joining her left Maelog rather depressed at the beginning of 2014, I shifted him and the remaining two Elderlies girls over as husboar for the newly split Tribe undersows, which position he has held for the last 3 years.

Rather literally crashed out with the remaining Elderlies sows and bonding with the Tribe undersows

Maelog was the George Clooney of my husboars – handsome, suave and with a relaxed approach to married life as long as his authority was not in question. Thankfully for him, he never caught on just how subtly and cleverly he was actually being managed by his seemingly submissive wives, first Rhosyn and then Hedydd! He was much loved by all his wives who snuggled up with him and kept kissing him when he suddenly took an unexpected turn for the worst.

Maelog was my most dedicated cage gnawer at food times; he’d often gnaw on even when breakfast or dinner had already been served and everypig else was happily tucking in. You usually had to tap him gently to alert him!

We all miss him very much as the room is a lot quieter without his cage rattling!

With great thanks to @furryfriends (TEAS) from The Excellent Adventure Sanctuary for entrusting Maelog to my care for all those years.

Awww Maelog Such a handsome old chap and a wonderful character, that photo of him determinedly chewing the bars - :)) what a little star. I am so sorry to hear you have lost another of your beautiful piggies.
What a handsome boar he was and so proud to be husboar to his sows. He had a fantastic home with you.

RIP Maelog.

So sorry for your loss Wiebke, you've lost so many recently.
Sleep Tight Little Maelog,
Popcorn free over the rainbow bridge.

Aw that was a lovely tribute to the wonderful Maelog. I loved the video clip, him and his first wife looked so happy there, and when you described how you had to alert him to stop his gnawing because food had arrived.... well that made me smile. Lovely sweet old boy.
Sorry for your loss @Wiebke, I can tell he's taken a piece of your heart with him
Be with your ladies, Maelog, they'll welcome you in xx

Sorry for your loss. A truely remarkable character by the sounds of things. RIP Maelog.
