The worlds most expensive pig (as she is now known by the insurance company!) is unwell again :(

I woke at 4am with that niggling feeling that something wasn't right... Investigated the pigs and found Maggie with one eye closed. Upon closer inspection, she's got very swollen eyelids so I think that something may have got in her eye and up under an eyelid or something. She was fine last night, as she always comes up to the edge of the cage for veggies last thing at night.

Her breathing is noisy again, but she's wiping her eyes and nose a lot and there's a lot of milky discharge from her eye, so I'm hoping its just this running down into her nose making her snuffle and not a recurrence of the abscesses :...

Tonight, typically, is the last night where there's no specific night vet on duty (its the day vet on call) so I'm not going to subject her to coming in at this time of the morning. I'm working at 8am anyway so Maggie is coming with me and someone can take a look.

It's never ending!

Poor Maggers :(

Poor Maggie, that does look sore. Hopefully it is just a foreign body in the eye or some irritation, and not anything more sinister. How does she seem in herself?

In herself? Normal, filling her face! I thought it had to be a FB or something with how quickly it came on. Gave her some metacam at 4.30am and brought her to work with me. The swelling has gone down a lot, and I can just see a piece of hay or a grass seed poking out from under her upper eyelid.

Although it's probably really sore at least it seems to be something easily sorted. These piggies really know how to worry us, don't they! xx

Hope it is a seed or something that can be sorted quickly for her, poor little girl :( it looks very sore.

hope she feels better soon, please keep us updated. x

Nothing too serious thankfully! She had a big long grass seed up under her upper eyelid, which has left a nice superficial ulcer. Got some fucithalmic, hopefully that should clear it up.

After less than 48 hours, Maggie's eye is back to normal - no sign of the ulcer any more :))

Going to continue the eye drops for the rest of the week, just to be sure.

That's great news...xx Give her an extra cuddle from us..
