Senior Guinea Pig
Once again, Mystery Maggie strikes again!
A couple of days ago I noticed that she was eating her lettuce "not quite right". The next day I thought she'd lost a bit of weight. The next day I weighed her and she had lost 120g from her last weigh in December. I cleaned them out and spent some time watching them - she was picking up nuggets and dropping them, and was trying to eat hay but pawing at her mouth.
Off she went to the vets, with me and the vet strongly suspecting a dental issue. I had to drop her off and leave her for a few hours as I couldn't make an appointment time with her specific vet around my work times, so I dropped her off and waited for the inevitable call to confirm the toofy news....
However, her teeth are perfect!
So, we have no idea what is wrong with Maggie. Her teeth are fine, mouth looks normal inside and out, jaw feels normal, no lumps or bumps or anything, although she was apparently reluctant to open her mouth and have it looked at. She's booked in for another CT scan on Monday (it'll be her 5th or 6th!), and blood tests to check her kidney function etc.
In the meantime, she's loving her critical care, and is enjoying finely chopped up veggies and the occasional treat of banana porridge! (mashed banana with porridge oats mixed in). She's gained 50g in 48 hours.
She has also posed nicely for some photos
Maggie and Jeffrey (my bestest piggies...shh! don't tell the other 5!)
Enjoying her critical care!
Critical care face!
Sleepy piggy snuggled into my dressing gown!
