My gorgeous baby Vladdy has runny poo and a runny nose. I know this is probably a futile attempt, but does anyone have a magic cure to help save him?

He has had antibiotics
calpol
mashed up food pellets (though not too many)
half an imodium tblet
Bazcapen
Dioralyte

Thank you

Fi

The one beginning with B. The vet gave it to him before when he was ill. The label has worn off now though.

He's not looking very good :(

It must be Baytril. That can upset the gut, so it is always worth giving probiotic too. Why was he put on the antibiotic? If he is looking so poorly I would suggest you get him back to the vet as soon as you can. Is your vet experienced with guinea pigs?

I have found some probiotics- so will give him those when he comes around a bit.

If anyone has ANY magical cures, please say!

Yes, Bio Lapsis.

Yes, I am pretty sure it is Baytril.

I am not sure if taking him to the vet is going to solve anything- what else can they do?

The vet we use is very good, but not particularly experienced with GP's. As with all vets, its mostly cats and dogs!

Thank you for your suggestions.

If you can, see your vet and ask him if he would consider switching to pediatric septrin instead. It is not as harsh on the guts as baytril, which can seriously upset a piggies digestive system and cause loss of appetite. My Llewelyn has been given it for URI after the baytril didn't work.

Cut out all fresh food until the poos are firm again. Be careful to reintroduce any veg slowly.

Did the vet prescribe the Baytril? What was the initial problem that alerted you to the fact he wasn't well? The diarrhoea may be antibiotic related, in which case probiotics should help. Plenty of food needs ot be going through him too, is he eating for himself?

Unfortunately Vladdy passed away sortly after my last post. He's going to rest with his friend Dave.

Thank you for all of your suggestions.

xx

I am so sorry for your loss; piggies can go down with frightening speed from either URI or diarrhea alone.

RIP Vlad - popcorn free of discomfort with your friend Dave

Sorry to hear that. At least he's no longer suffering, poor little mite. Sleep well, little Vladdy x
