Hi all,
Maia is really very sick, she was looking a bit down last night and only picked at her food, this morning she ate nothing and had lost a lot of weight - she is now almost half the size of Ivy so I rushed her to a new vet (fed up of getting fobbed of at the old practice) and saw a very nice vet who says she has a serious chest infection, she has had 2 injections: Baytril, Colvasone and a multi vit and has given me a glutalyte sachet to be syringed little and often. He has told me to keep her warm and keep my fingers crossed :'( I have just done their tea and she had one mouthful of carrot and went back to bed. I have another appointment tomorrow afternoon to assess her situation but it doesnt look good. I cannot believe how quickly she has gone down hill, in 8 hours she lost 4grams and yesterday morning she was stuffing into a piece of brocolli bigger than her!
I'm going to go give her some more glutalyte now although most of the last lot went down her fur, I'm really worried about her choking, might try a spoon rather than the syringe.

Wish us luck
Love
Sarah & the gang

I would try her with mushed pellets and water or vegetable baby food via syrgine. When you lift the side of your guinea's mouth there is a gap between the front and back teeth. If you put the syringe in there my guinea then usually takes it from me herself. Also syringe water hourly so you know she is getting enough water so she doesn't dehyfrate. Hope this helps and good luck :)

Re: Maia is very ill - Herbal has it now

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I guess it doesnt rain but it pours - Herbal has it too, she has lost just under 100 grams we have been back to the vet and got antibiotics and have been told its contagious so to watch the others like a hawk :'( Poor little thing is sneezing and looking very sorry for herself, luckily Ivy (Maias sister) seems fine and is putting on weight nicely, Ivy has moved in with Violet so she isnt lonely. I'm trying to tempt Herbal with all her favourite foods but she is just picking at it without much interest, its a good thing she was tubby to start with, the vet is hopful she will pull through because we caught it very early and she is such a good size. Sorry i'm rambling I'm still upset about Maia and now poor Herbal :'( I think i'll pop to sainsburys and get her some blueberries, expensive but yummy ::)

love
sarah

so sorry to hear herbal has now got it, sending hugs and healing vibes to you and herbal :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: perhaps try syringe feeding some mashed pellets, and syringe some water into her. thinking of you sending prayers :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

wondering how herbal is today? hoping she is feeling better. sending you both hugs and healing vibes and please keep us posted. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: hoping ivy and violet are in another room where they too won't get infected. am thinking of you all and sending good vibes your way. :-* :-* :-*

Herbal is still snuffly and isnt loving me too much today, I dont think she appreciates having her medicine. She has only lost 1g since yesterday and ate a decent size tea and is picking at her breakfast at the moment, she also seems a bit more active. None of the others are showing any symptoms I havent seperated them as the vet said if they were going to catch it they would already have it, we think Violet and Biter may have already had a mild form as both were a little sneezy last week but i thought it was because I bought a new hey for the rabbit that was very dusty it certainly made me sneeze.
Thankyou for all the kind words and please keep your fingers crossed for Hebal and the gang
Love
Sarah

sorry for your loss RIP Maia 0:) 0:)

Hope Herbal recovers
