Why does Maisey have to have something wrong with her right before we are about to go on holiday on Tuesday?

On Monday I gave Maisey a pamper day (bath, nails cut etc) ready for when she goes off to stay with Becky aka Piggin' Rescue whilst we are away. Then on Tuesday, I had Maisey out and then I noticed she had scratched her back and it was bleeding, so I decided to bave it with boiled water cooled down. Thinking it would clear up. Wedneday, Thursday and today she's been scratching it, it tries to heal but then she keeps scratching the scabs and making them come away and bleed.
Today whilst I was waiting for the boiled water to cool down to bave it, I decided to examine her fur and skin and have noticed it is abit flaky but can't see no sign of black things
Has she got mites? or is it dandruff? if it's mites, OMG! right before we go on holiday!I can't afford vet bills and I don't want to have my parents pay for it, and the money they use for the bills could've been money gone towards the holiday.
My dad's gonna kill me for having pets! and having them have something wrong with them before we go away!
I have read treatment is injections and the course of it is three? you have to keep going back to the vets every few days to have the other injections?
How can we do that if we will be away for 2 weeks?. OMG! would we be able to get them cleared up before we go away? could i just get some mites spray from the pet shop or maybe it isn't mites?

I don't wanna have poor Becky aka Piggin' Recue have to look after a piggie with mites and scabs on her back.

I'll do as I'm told next time and never have any more piggies even if i do love them arghhhh!
Dunno what to do! :0:(mallethead

hi Boris has white flakey skin atm and likes to rip it open with his teeth or nails,he has been diagnosed with a fungal infection and is currently been treated with a very expensive cream and bandages.the best thing i can recommend right now is to put some aloe vera gel on the wound, try to bandage it if possible and get her to the vet asap,if it is a fungal infection they can get very nasty very quickly xxxxgoodluckxxxx

Something is certainly bugging poor Maisey! Aloe vera gel or ointment does soothe the skin. I found the gel worked fine, while others prefer to use ointment. Remember that it is a solution to the symptom, not the cause though, so the cause will need treating too.

No mite spray, I've never been convinced by how useful or safe it is - especially on open wounds. Ivermectin is the best bet, either orally or topically. Given your concerns about finances, a spot-on treatment may be your first port of call. You can buy a box of Beaphar Anti-Parasite Spot-On, which contains topical Ivermectin in four pipettes, for less than £5. I found with my adult pigs I needed 2 pipettes per pig, so one box to treat two pigs initially, and then the same again for the repeats.

Whether you treat topically, orally or by injection, it will need repeating 10 days after the initial dose, and again 10 days after that if the case is severe enough.

Fungal infections are usually characterised by the looseness of the hair, meaning if you give it a gentle tug, the hair slides out with very little, or no, resistance. Flaky skin, inflamed skin (i.e. red instead of pink) and hair loss are also symptoms. Fungal infections are treating by bathing in antifungal shampoos, usually leaving the shampoo to soak in for 5 minutes before rinsing, and repeating the bath again a week later - and once more after that if necessary.

Oh nooooooo it's always the way when you're going away!
Sending heaps of healing vibes for Maisey xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

grrrrrrrrr hate mites and bugs malletheadmallethead piggie enemy :p

We got Maisey to the vets today. My dad was abit angry though specially as the price was really big lol.
The vet has given us some Ivermectin spot on stuff that prevents and treats internal and external paprsite, you have to put on the neck and he gave us some to put on Cookie too to prevent her from getting mites aswell.
It's good because I have to put the next spot on stuff in 2 weeks time and i'll be back from my holiday then, so i'll be able to do it, and Becky won't need to do it then whilst they are staying with her.
Though Becky if you are reading this, Maisey may still have her bite wound, but I'll asure you that she's getting treated for mites :)

Glad you did get to a vet, even though your dad did grumble at the cost! It is hard to be in such a situation where you rely on your parents to take you somewhere, I sympathise with you on that. I find that the fact I pay the vets bills myself makes a big difference - if only I could drive, then they'd have no reason to complain!
