Maisie Has Cystitis

there's a company called copella which look good. they sell it in sainsburys so have added two flavours of their juice to my online shop. :)) have to get two incase my princess doesn't approve of one. :hmm: :)) they are just natural juice with the antioxidant vitamin c and nothing else so all natural. :) i'm going to get one apple and pear, and one apple and raspberry, and just dilute it with some water (and marbocyl.. ssshhhh... :)) :)

i'm even worried about the natural sugars. maybe i should blend cucumber instead and add it to that? she wasn't this bad at first having the marbocyl but then she started to get really upset and now won't let me at all. so since then she's had it with cucumber mainly, but that's just mainly water so makes me worry it is being diluted.

and when she has mashed banana, i worry about the sugar.

just wondering if she's getting what she should be from it when it is in food.

does anyone have any other suggestions? maybe i am worrying too much regarding the juice, as she only has 0.44ml of marbocyl once a day, so the juice i add would maybe be 0.1/0.2ml. i think because it's cystitis i am worried about the sugar.

There is a Holland & Barratt i think it is (could be Julian graves) that sells a small bottle of Cranberry juice... no added anything, its about £15 if i remember rightly. i used it when my last girly had ongoing cystitus to take away the taste of baytril. i think i just put a few drops in a little water for her. then baytril already loaded in syringe sucked a small amount of cranberry mix in too. not sure if this would work for Marbcyl though:blink:

aha just had a look... heres the link

looks like there is an offer on. but out of stock online. they had loads on the shelf when i went to my local one though.

not sure why they like it.... its horrible.... supposed to be a refreshing drink when diluted with water... i tried some & NOOO Thankyou not again!:vom:

xx

:)) i'll have to remember not to try any then.

it would work for the marbocyl. i syringe it from a bottle anyway so could add some juice to it. i'll get o/h to see if it's in our local one as he's going near there today.

someone suggested to buy an orange and just squeeze some juice from that as it would also give vitamin c. not sure how she would be with orange but could be worth a try?

i'll end up getting her a selection i just know it. :)):)):))

Is it Interstitial cystitis she has? not the type that is just an infection? if so I have been warned against giving cranberry juice as it can make IC worse, a pig recently hemmoraged after having it, though it was given neat. Even so, even when it is diluted it can make it worse, I posted a link a while back about it. I know it is a common opinion that cranberry helps cystitis but it only helps if it is an actual infection.

I do sometimes put meds in one syringe so you could put the metacam in the syringe last so it is that that she tastes first.

it's a bacterial infection that she has. the vets said a chronic cystitis. so not IC i don't think. not too clued up on it though to be honest.

it only occured to me to mix the meds earlier. i think she would be fine with the marbocyl if it was disguised after the metacam and cerenia. she probably does get it all in food but i just feel better when i know i have syringed it all in her mouth. :)

We had to do it with Maddie as she loved her Metacam but not the other meds. We even dipped the syringe in Dioralyte as she loved that too.

Ok, IC is inflammation of the bladder.

what they said about maisie was that she had alot of bacteria, blood and inflammatory cells in her sample, along with alot of mucus in the next sample taken directly from her bladder.

think i will skip the cranberry anyway and try all the meds in one syringe. at least the metacam and marbocyl anyway, as she is a metacam junkie aswell. she wasn't keen on the cerenia the first time round when i had to give 1/8 of a tablet, but this time they mixed it with some syrup and she drinks that fine. she loves it luckily. :)

Oh that sounds painful bless her. Not sure if you have tweaked her diet already but that can help if you haven't? I can give more info tonight once I am back from the vets if needed. Just finishing my lunchbreak.

Hope Maise gets better soon, Lost Guiness yesterday to either a UTI or stones, we rushed him to the vets Saturday morning as his urine was slightly pink , but by Sunday 3pm he couldn't pass urine at all and died in my arms at 4.30, - I can only assume by reading posts that he had stones and crystals which blocked, so sad as he had just gone through an op the week before for removal of a cyst on his testicle area, which is where we presume he picked up the infection-

i'm really sorry for your loss. how heartbreaking. :( x

well the metacam and marbocyl in the same syringe did not fool her one bit. she started to drink it as normal and hadn't had much when she realised something was amiss :hmm: then she became very huffy indeed! i ended up having to get rid of that syringe and make up separate new ones and syringe the marbocyl in some mashed cucumber again. she was suddenly less traumatised then of course. honestly, i've never seen such dramatics  :luv:

next try - some juice with the marbocyl. so glad it's only once a day. :))

this course is done now so fingers crossed.

she's 980g today. her last eight weights have been 965g - 990g so hopefully she will stay to be at least that weight now.

overall she seems bright and happy so lets hope we have managed to get her back on track now - finally!

the juice that got her to take the marbocyl was the copella apple and raspberry. :)) she really likes it. she still knew there was marbocyl in there but drank it anyway. :)

weighed again today and she's 1020g :D:D:D

she's on metacam for a couple of days for her ankle at the moment but other than that, all going well :)
