i have noticed over the last few days maisie has been dribbling i think this is due to teeth problems. problem is i cannot go to the vet until fri night or sat morning as i dont have the money until then. She is still drinking water and has eaten some of her veggies so not completely off her food. i tried soaking some pellet in water to give her, she took a bit but is now uninterested. i have weighed her so i can keep an eye on her and she is 400g. is there anything else i can do until i can see the vet?

How old is Maisie? From her weight, she sounds a bit too young for tooth trouble.

However, sores and rashes in the mouth and throat can happen as well. Daktarin oral get from the pharmacy can help in a case like that.

She can't go five days without eating, so you need to make sure she does - by syringe feeding if necessary. You can grind up ordinary food pellets in a coffee grinder or using a rolling pin (well, some types grind easier than others), and syringe feed the result.
She may eat more if you sooth her nouth using daktarin oral gel, or childrens nurofen. Er, I don't remember the doses, though. Hopefully someone else will remember...

she is about 3 months old? i put the bowl of mushed up pellet in her cage and she is eating it now.

If she's eaten her mush I would be tempted to wait and get some daktarin tomorrow.

According to this thread here, the dose of nurofen is 0.4ml. Children's nurofen contains 100mg of iboprofen per 5ml, so that's 8mg in the 0.4ml dose. Assuming that your calpol is also iboprofen, you can work out the equivalent does from that. If it's paracetamol, I don't know if that's safe.

Sorry to hear Maisie's not herself. 3 months old is very young to have teeth problems, unless she is genetically predisposed to such problems.

Oral fungal could be just as likely a cause, but I agree that the teeth must be checked ASAP.

Painkillers tend to work more effectively if given twice daily, so for adult pigs 0.2ml twice daily tends to be more helpful than one bigger dose once a day. Dosage for Calpol is the same - 0.2ml twice daily.

However - Maisie is a young piggie, the dose needs to take this into account. I would give half the dose - 0.1ml twice daily.

I would be inclined to give a low dose of the Daktarin if you give it at all - no more than 0.25ml twice daily until you actually know what the specific problem is.

If there is some improvement while she's on Calpol I'd hold off with the Daktarin, but if no real improvement with the Calpol then switch to Daktarin instead. I'm loathe to use much on young piggies under 6 months, hence advising the use of one or other as Alex suggested.

I'm not sure what it could be but I just want to suggest that if she is not eating the normal amount of food she usually does, then i would be syringe feeding her whether she likes it or not. As i have found out, piggies can go downhill very quickly. I am currently syringe feeding one of my little ones. I bought some supreme science recovery from the vets (i pay about £1.50 a sachet) so that might be able to keep you going til you can get her to the vets for an appointment. My piggy hates being syringe fed, but i have to force him otherwise he would've died well before now. Also make sure she is drinking properly or you will need to syringe feed some water into her as well. Make sure she is getting her vitamin c as well. (I mix mine in with the science recovery). And although it smells terrible, and looks disgusting, my healthy piggy absolutely loves it (he wanted a try). So she might even like it. (My poorly piggy has lost his appetite so thats why he doesnt like it).
Good luck Maisie xx

i dont use the recovery anymore but do still have some in just as a back up..

I use excel pellets oregano and blackcurrant, add some pellets and poor on boiling water so it covers the pellets wait 15 Min's then add a bit more(until the pellets will not take anymore water) wait another 15 mins then mush with a fork until you get a smooth paste wait for it to cool..

This can be given via syringe which i think is better as the recovery tends to block up the syringe where the pellets dont,i have a couple of dental guinea here and all lap it up out of a bowl now but when there teeth need doing again they struggle a little so i syringe feed it and for about 1 day after there teeth have been done..

it works out cheaper than buying the recovery sachets and is jst as good as the recoveryxxx

I'm going to leave the oral gel and calpol i think as she is eating plenty of mushed pellet so definately eating enough and she is drinking. still her usual self bouncing around and sqeaking lol.
