Just spotted the below advert :tickedoff:

Baby Guinea Pigs for sale, x3, great Christmas present, birthdays given, various colours, males and females, also another batch of four ready 25th November, call for details,

Why do people do this every year :( Then by january they need to rehome them

Thats terrible, they shouldnt be allowed to advertise them as christmas presents. They are not allowed to do it with dogs and cats. I would contact the paper and complain. :tickedoff:

oh for goodness sake what is wrong with these silly people ?

no animal is a Christmas present they are a lifelong responsibility!! :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

Batch makes them sound like they are just turning them out to make a profit! Disguisting, people like this don't deserve to have any pigs whatsoever.

Reading the initial post again I think the second "batch" is possibly from the same mummy pig! :tickedoff: God what must they be putting their put little piggies through! :tickedoff:

I am going to now tell you what happened to a friend of mine. My friend brought two Sows( Rosie and Tinkerbell,) a few weeks later a friend of hers said she was taking her single piggie to a rescue which was also a SOW (Fifi). She took Fifi in whom looked very much like a Sow. Then she brought Dora after a week Dora got very fat and shoed me a picture yep she was pregnant came that way from the petshop. Dora had her babies and all went well. Two days later My friend woke to find Tinkerbell had given birth to one baby she was VERY shocked as Tinks had not been near any Boars or so she thought. The piggie whom she saved from going to a rescue (Fifi)was in fact a boar he had no testiclas and a very under delveloped winky. Rosie was also pregnant so my friend went from two piggies to four by her own choice then had an explosion of piggies. This happened early november last year. I took on Tinkerbells baby a boar(Rimmer)
Now she had no room for more than four piggies so had to find homes for the babies. IT WAS not long before christmas and one day I was going through the freeads and spotted hers. It did say those fatal words make an ideal christmas present she had not even had one reply.I pointed out to her what she put and she felt awfull. Her intentons was to find loving homes and instead offering them for free she wa selling them. In the end he waited untill after christmas to find them new homes.
Do not JUDGE everyone sometimes these things do happen when it not wanted.. This foum is not what it once was it now sems to be gtnga litte bit nasty.

Awww i would feel terrible in your friends situation as it wasnt her fault :-\ but the explosion of minipigs was not in her mind but i think the original post seems as though they are just breeding for christmas by the way they are talking about 'batches' and how more are coming soon O0

Yep I agree with ILA I have sympathy for people in unintentional breeding but those that breed for Christmas I have to say are they off their rocker? As for this forum turning nasty, this is the best forum on the planet to me, believe me I joined one last week and had a few run ins with their mods over nothing at all.

I just think these kind of things bring out our instinct to protect guineas and maybe sometimes we can come on strong but it isn't meant. If the advert is a genuine one like your friends situation then I appologise for being so hasty. :)

Sometimes it does happen by mistake. My mum bought two sows from a breeder (you'd think they'd know better) and they were both pregnant. She ended up with mini pigs, which she loved, but never intended.

There are people who breed from their guinea pigs deliberatley to make a few extra bucks for christmas though. I never understand why. A guinea pig probably only sells for about a tenner I suppose, and I bet its costs more than that to feed them for the first few weeks!

I wish people knew more about rescues, and didnt always turn to freeads and newspapers when looking for a pet. I think people need educating.

Unfortunately the wording on the advertisement is what makes it seem far from accidental or unintentional, which is why everyone is getting so miffed.

What annoys me more is not simply the selling of the pets (which very rarely irritates me, depending on the case) - but the marketing as Christmas presents. They're living, breathing creatures - not Furbies. 98)

I agree too.

I dont think people realise the implications of selling pets as 'xmas presents' though. Most people probably dont realise how many unwanted 'presents' end up in rescues in the new year.
