I'm tallying up the price of making my own C&C Vs buying a kit.

Just working out how many grids id need. If i have a 2x4 deck, will i need a grid to support it or will the perimeter of the cage and the floor of the deck be enough?

Also

Ive had a look on B&Q to see how much i can get some cubes for, i will need 2 boxes and a can get 100 cable ties for £4 too.

I looked on piggy paradise as i need some correx and 4 sets of the bed spreads (2 for 2nd level and 2 for bottom level)

So, to make a whole C&C setup myself + 4 sets of bedding and a stand will cost me

£184 inc P&P

Does this sound good or not? My mind is going blank with numbers and figured now rolleyes

OR

do i scrap the fancy bedding system and go for conventional megazorb and shavings untill i can afford the bedding. That will then cost me...

£102 including P&P

What do you think?

Could you use normal fleece and buy some inco pads from Amazon? Then you could always get the nice bedspreads later. I have just got some correx from piggy paradise, it's a great website.

my 2x4 stacked cost me £42.98 for the cube's and £24 for 2 sheets of the clear coroplast from b and q (i later changed the coroplast to yellow) the cable ties are 99p delivered from ebay or i got 200 on local market for a pound (you only need the short one's) don'tbuy there clear tape it is no good and don't go far duct tape from pound land is better

It still sounds like quite a lot of money. Is the correx you have a price for pre-cut? I guess that bumps the price up.

I bought 2mm black correx from Travis Perkins. £7 for an 8ft x 4 ft sheet.

Btw, I have a 3 x 4 set up with a layloft and used well over 200 cable ties.

god...is it me or are cable ties addictive :red

it's not just you i change the cage every week so have to buy them all the time and if i run out like i did last week i walked down the street in my pj's at 11pm to ask my mate down the street if she had any to borrow

If I'm not buying the fancy fleece, then it would be cheaper for me to use megazorb as i already use it with the rabbits.

The boxes i found on B&Qs site have 24grids and is £22.98 and i need 2 packs as i want a base, a stand and a 2nd level.

I think the coroplast from piggie paradise came to £30ish +£12 P&P

Yes its precut

If you have your heart set on that cage then get what you want, i bought a hutch with run for £100 and soon as i found the grids i sold it 3 weeks after buying it because i really wanted a C and C cage, i like making thing's and can be creative so i really enjoyed making it but if you can get it pre cut with fancy fleece and you can afford it then go for it, it is more expensive but worth it to know it's not goiong to go wrong then you have to buy stuff again, i admit i went wrong on the coroplast the first time:))

ha ha ha.

And, i agree about the cage, i think you can change your mind on a weekly basis and do what suits you and what you think is best for your pigs as time goes on and as you get to know them and also what they like x

I think ive finally made my mind up! :)

Its cheaper to do it from scratch, on my own. I was just worried about finding the materials. Ive emailed a local sign/plastics company for a quote as they sell the corex sheets. Ive added a few sellers to my ebay too just incase.

Ill use conventional bedding for now untill i can comfortably afford the more expensive fleece stuff. But now i just need to decide what type of ramp to use.

What do you reccomend? I dont want it to be wobbly or anything. x

i used two grids bent into a * shape and covered them.

I have also used a piece of correx for a small ramp
