i no ive only had them a day but there so scatty i been sitting next to them and tryed to feed them threw a cage with a little treat but they always hiding will it always be like this how long before there trust me :'(

it can take weeks, even months, every pig is different but most pigs dont trust you for a while, just sit with them and talk to them, feed them there fav foods, they will come around soon :)

it takes a long time to earn their trust as usually guinea pigs are at the bottom of the food chain and they see everyone as a predator. talk to them, cuddle them even if they run and hide, give them treats and in time they will get use to you. it took us just on 12 months for jessie to trust us. give it time, you are at the magical stage of getting to know each other. enjoy it. hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*

i tryed to cuddle them today but when i went to pick them up they ran and i didnt want to frighten them to much isit wise to keep tryin to pick them up or will it cause to much stress for them

you have to pick them up when cleaning them or play time, i would leave them for 24 hours to settle in, then spending most of the next day talking to them like talking in the same room even if it is to yourself. then i would talk to them as you get them out and cuddle them and offer treats. perhaps there is a way you can block them of at the past so lessen where they can run too. it is up to you really how you go about it, you can just talk to them and wait for them to come to you, or you can stress them a little and cuddle them and try to reassure them. which ever way you go how you'll all be very happy together. what are their names? sending hugs and cuddlkes from me and the girls in oz :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*

there called milo and dino i just dont want to hurt them lol i think i might take them out tomorow in the spare room and let them run about i just frightened of hurting them

I've only had mine 2 weeks today and its been lovely to see them slowly show their little characters. Their still really scatty with me but they wheek when i come in the room sometimes especially if they havent seen me for a bit. They not afraid of my hand now either. They'll come around but u gotta be patient and its really hard! I find myself taking it to heart sometimes when they get scaredy but its just their instinct. They love veggies and mine never refuse when I'm holding them and one of mine has now taken a liking to sitting right up by my face. Just handle them little and often at first so they can get used to you. So dont worry they will come around and ive only had mine 2 weeks so imagine what they'll be like in another 2 weeks!
Choloes suggestions are perfect O0

Goodluck and dont be sad ;D

i might try and get them out then in a bit lol are the known for biting?

no they won't bite. Mine (when babies) tried to have a little nibble, but they prefer to lick my hands!

Pick them up gently but firmly. Pop them on a towel in your lap and stroke them.

If you offer them treats like cucumber when you go to the cage they will soon get used to it and will come over to what you've got.

They will get more friendly dont worry :)

I've only known a piggie to nibble, they do it to explore whatever they are nibbling. Ive never ever been bitten and ive had 11 guinea pigs so far. Try talking to them in a soothing voice if they get histerical when your holding them. have a bit of veg for when your holding them and everytime you bring them out for a bit. then they learn that its okay coz theu get a treat O0

I know i will proberly be told am wrong for suggesting this but i have fleece beds for mine to lie on (apart from my boys have houses, but they have been here longer) I have loads of hay for them to hide in if they want. Because I have only had 3 sows since saturday and 1 since monday, and they dont have somewhere to hide at every noise they now eat from me and arent so skitty when i open cage, its been great. x

thanks for all of your advice ive tryed to get them out today but they really didnt want to come out and 1 jumped from my hands so i gave up in the end. i carryed on by trying to feed them cucumber threw the cage for about 40 mins but they didnt come out there hide to see what i had ill give it a go again tomorow

Another little trick is to use a hand towel to gentle pop them onto and wrap them in it before you lift them out, that way they are hiding and feel safe, then once on the ground or on your lap just open up the towel and talk quietly to them and they look at you and might come out. If not don't worry they're now with you so you can do this a few times a day, don't forget to have some treats ready beside you they'll then associate cuddles with you being treats time :smitten:

WELLLLLLLLLLLLL i had them out today, i put the cage on the floor and took the lid off and they both just jumped out they went seperate ways and hid in the corners so i gently picked one up and my boyfriend got the other i had treats with me but they didnt take any at first they had one slice of cucumber then just hid and didnt wanna no. as we were putting them back one got past and run under the bed it took us 25mins to get him out lol but all in all ok for first time

and another thing my brown guinea has really soft furrr but my other one is like straw bit like a brissle pad? 98)

ive had a read up about rex's and it fits the description of my piggy, when i bought them from pets at home they said there from the same litter? but my other one isnt like that 98)

they told me the same thing. When my piggy had a litter (years ago now) 3 where brown and one was white, was really strange. x
