hello I'm wanting to try and make a pad to start with and move onto liners and cosies. Does anyone have any idea what to use as the absorbant layer?

I cut up a quilted mattress cover and used a double thickness, it dries really quickly after washing.

Thanks for your reply guys :) I'm looking forward to making it I'll get either one :)

Not as an absorbent layer as it tends to be polyester which doesn't really hold liquid.
I have used it in a piglu to give some 'substance' the roof (if that makes sense)
Ahh thanks for clearing that up, I just saw it on a cosy website saying they but 4oz wadding in. It's useful to know for when I decide to venture and make something else

I have just started making my own liners and pads having just purchased a sewing machine (never thought I'd say that!) but I use a layer of mattress protector then a layer of microfibre tea towels or towels they wick away all moisture and dry really quickly! Plus they must be comfortable too as I can't get my lads off them :D
All supplies were from b&m
Two polar fleeces £3.99
Double mattress protector £6.99
Microfibre tea towels £1.79
And I have made loads!!

Oh wow that's really good! I've had to hold off actually as I was going to buy a sewing machine but as I'm doing teacher training next year it's costing so much money in books :(

If you don't mind me asking what sewing machine do you have? And is it easy? As I do want one but need to wait for my scholarship or SKE money to come in

I bought the brother LS14 from Amazon it was only £64 which is cheaper than anywhere else and I must say its the easiest machine I have ever had too use! I have really bad memories of the old ones in school many moons ago but this is so easy! I checked Amazon through camel camel camel as the price changes several times a day, once it got to £64 I pounced on it lol
