Hello, I have 2 male un-neutered guinea pigs, If i had 2 female guinea pigs un-neutered within noise and smell distance of each other would the males still get along well? There brothers and have grown up with each other.

Thanks Rich

My guess would be they could fight to begin with, maybe after a while when they both realise neither of them are going to be introduced to the females they will calm down. Having them nuetuerd doesnt control their sex drive anyway, well it didn't with my boy he still has his moments.

Neutering doesn't change anything except the ability to make babies. It certainly doesn't calm down boys! You only have to consider it if you are thinking about putting a boar with a girl 4-6 weeks after the neutering operation.

The arrival of girls in the boys territory could spark a fall out, even if you keep the girls out of sight and at a bit of a distance. Boars who have grown up with sows nearby are usually OK, but things are a bit different when girls are introduced later. A lot depends on how strong the bond is and how laid back your boys are.

i wouldnt chance it, my guess would be they would end up fighting and falling out.

however if you can house the boys above the girls for some reason i dont think they can smell the girls. it might just of been me being lucky.

Thanks for the replys, i was just thinking of rescueing a couple of girls, as pets, just to have g pigs of different sexes really. not to breed. But i dont want to risk having the boys fight as there very close and dont fight at all now. Maybe i could get a couple more young boys and introudce them to my 2 now, to be a larger group? If so how would i go about doing this?

Thanks!

Awwww I love my boys, they're so comical to watch, my girls are quite reserved and quiet but my boys are ...well just mental.
