Hi everyone, hope you can help me,
I have had some issues with my male guinea pigs and was wondering if there is anyone here that can help?
I have a male guinea pig who is currently living on his own due to fighting and falling out ect...
He is only about 5 months old, we have tried to introduce him to the other but nothing is working.
I know that guinea pigs shouldn’t live on their own ( especially when he is this young)
I didn’t want to get another boar for him to live with as due to previous events I know this is not a good idea ( I also don’t have the facilities to split more up )
So, I was thinking about getting a female and getting my male castrated as this is what I have been advised
I just wanted to check that if I were to prosead with this that the male and female should not fight ?!?
Thank you all so much for the help, I really do appreciate it ! Xx

If you are going to get your boar castrated you will need to wait a FULL 6 weeks post op before you introduce him to a sow to ensure that he cannot impregnate a sow. Not all females will accept all males, but if the introduction is carried following our guides it stands a reasonable chance of success. It may be best to contact one of our approved rescues as they can assist with a supervised bonding with a sow or sows as they have experience of observing bondings and can ensure that the bond will work before you go home with another piggy.

Hi vickiA,

What are the approved rescues ?
Thanks so much again xx

We have a rescue locator/list in the top bar organised by area. These are rescues that have been checked and have excellent service, healthy piggies and good policies.
