Hello! I am looking to get my adult male guinea pig a friend. I don't come across a lot of neutered female guinea pigs so I'm hoping to find him a male friend! I know not all guinea pigs will get on but I was hoping maybe someone has experience with bonding older guinea pigs? He is very energetic and I just want to know what to look out for behaviour wise so I get him the right friend :) I'd appreciate any advice!

Age doesnt really matter, but boars do calm down as they get older, for two boars you will need a minimum of 140cmx 60cm cage. Good luck👍

Thank you so much! Yeah I haven't got many around me but I'll have a look! Hopefully yeah :)

What about The Potteries GPR at Kidsgrove, Stoke on Trent?
Yeah I've had a look at that one, it's over an hour away from me so I'm not sure that would work :/ thank you for the suggestion though, it's hard having to travel!

I had problems finding a rescue, the nearest to me that would accept me and does boar dating is 136 mile round trip! The rescues that are closer have given up rehoming guinea pigs.

Age isn't important in bonding but compatible personalities is a must. For this reason it is much better to travel to a great rescue for the support and reassurance that you have a compatible pairing than visiting a local pet shop and running the risk of a fall out. I have travelled to rescues previously that have been an hour and even an hour and half away. I once even went to a rescue that took the best part of the day as I had to get two trains (before I drove).

Ah okay! I had been informed that older guinea pigs would pick on younger ones! Yeah I'll have to see if someone could give me a lift to one of them! Thanks for your advice!

Yeah it's a pain! I'm worried that if I adopt another one then my guinea pig won't like him...
